Wait till you witness someone actually fall over the mini walls (im not talking about being thrown way over but literally being knocked backwards over it, like getting pushed and tripped)... never thought that was possible, thought if there was a wall there was no out of the ring wins...

This game rocks. I tried out the new characters in the Dojo and both are fun to use. Still not sure who I'm going to stick with though. I really wish I had a stick. Trying to do some of the diagonal moves just doesn't work all the time for me with the pad.

Just a heads up since nobody mentioned it. Virtua Fighter 5 WILL scale up to 1080i for people with 1080i/480p TVs. It has been confirmed by a few people online. Maybe someone here can try it out as well. Seems like the scaler fix is in effect.

Yeah I agree with you all, that initial install took forever. I think the game is really good overall, but I still have issues with how easy it is for the computer to just do the block your moves then throw. I know there is a throw counter but I just suck at it's timing or maybe my reaction time has slowed over the years .

I wish I could use my arcade stick from the PS2. Diagonals are difficult with the d-pad, sometimes I think I hit diagonal but the computer didn't see it as that according to what was displayed in the dojo mode.

Like most fighting games the first couple of fighters in arcade mode are easy if you know just the basics you'll get by, but by the last 1/2 or so they start doing a lot more properly timed side steps, combos and blocks and if you just go at them aggressively or button mash you'll get stomped on.

If you have 720p set in you XMB it will run in that res by default. Untick 720p and tick 1080p or i. Let me know if it works, I'm too lazy to go downstairs and try it, lol.

I'm gonna bump this so you guys can see it.

I just tested 1080i with VF5 and it works flawlessly. If you have 720p selected in your XMB the game will use that. However if 1080i/480p is selected the game scales to 1080i and looks great.

Goodnight.

This is great it's scaling at 1080p on my HDTV. Atleast they didn't lie and put 1080p on the back of the box.

The sound is pretty awesome in the game. Granted I only have a standard 5.1 setup. But if you play in one of those arenas like the wrestling kage, the guys chanting in the background in surround sound is just awesome. And with the guys with heavy punches and kicks like Akira or Lei-Fei (especially when he hits the ground with his two hands) the bass is sweet.

That said, the english commentary has to be the cheesiest thing ever. Most of the time its just repeated stuff and theres a delay when the match goes quick.

Anyways, I'm not a great VF player but the dojo is definately helping me improve my skills. Ive only been playing with El Blaze and Lion Rafale seriously today. Tommorrow I'll have to try out some others.

Yeah, that happened to me last night. Even though I'm a beginner and have never played any games in the series, I was feeling pretty ****y. I was going through the quest mode and had won 25 in a row. Then I went to one of the arenas that had a mix of players and ended up losing. They did a pretty good job of setting me up. I usually don't care that much about the winning but I was devasted after my first loss. Anyway, once I started facing tougher opponents that blocked and moved well, it quickly wore me down (literally). My hands were killing me by the 3rd or 4th rounds.

I do try to use some strategy, like attacking low or attacking high depending on who I'm fighting, and I change my style some when fighting the much faster opponents but overall, I don't do a lot of planning for the moves/blocks I'm using (i.e. mostly button mashing with a few of the moves I've learned by doing that thrown in). I can tell it's going to take a lot more than that to advance against the better players though. The ones that started blocking and side-stepping a lot, I initially tried to overwhelm them by being even more aggressive but all that did was make my hands cramp up. It was kind of funny b/c it almost seemed like a real fighter wearing down. My button-mashing got slower and slower and slower.

Anyway, guess I'll have to hit the practice area...

Yeah, it sounds really cool even though I have mine just going through the TV/headphones. I'm using Lei-Fei.

I have a 1080p tv and the game is running at 720p. I have all the resolutions checked off on my display settings. Do I need to check off 720p to force it to 1080p?

Yes, just leave 1080p and 480p selected and the game should scale to 1080p at startup.

I can confirm this for 1080i, however I don't have a 1080p set but I'm pretty certain it should work since that's how Sony's scaling function operates.

I have 1080p so I'll try that tonight to see how it goes.

Edit: Didn't try that yet but after trying the Do Jo, I'm struggling against a level 2 player. I did real well against the practice dummy that doesn't move though.
