Ubuntu + nforce2 + nvidia driver + Xorg = black screen + mouse
I've seen a lot of the black screen posts but haven't found any that match my symptoms.
OS is Ubuntu 6.10, mboard is M7NCG 400 (nforce2 w/ integrated graphics).
I've tried both the nvidia-glx-legacy driver through apt-get, and the legacy 1.0-9631 official binary driver, to no avail. When the system first boots, I see a blue screen and a wait cursor. Then, the screen is black except for a white text box (for login), then the screen turns all black except I can see/move the mouse.
From commandline, I can startx and run glxgears fine, it's just when I start gnome. Any ideas?
