After some months, and seeing the original thread here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68037 ), how many of you actually switched to conroe from amd? If so, when? Did you see an immediate impact?
I think I'd be interesting to see the impact on the enthusiast market (but maybe still love their companies... enough to not warrent the switch). I switched at Christmas, it will be a worthy upgrade soon. |

Well considering I switched to a 3GHZ overclocked Core2 Duo to from an AthlonXP 2100+, I saw a big fricken difference.

It's sort of a cutsom built mod that I put into my Lian-Li V1000 case. I'll take pics of it once I have the setup together. |

I've been always an Intel user, for 15+ years. 2 years ago I replaced Pentium 4 HT @ 3.2GHz by Athlon Venice 3200+, and it was a horrible experience. Very low performance in video and audio, and extreme instability (nForce4 Asus board). Later I purchased X2 4400+ and Asus A8N32-SLI, which was finally quite stable, but the performance (except games) still was not there. Plus many troubles with dualcore compatibilitym which Intel Pentium D did not have.
Anyway, after 1 1/2 years with AMD, having nothing more than troubles, I am back, forever, at Intel camp. I think AMD was, is, and will be a total outsider, and its products shall be ignored. Will never purchase AMD again. I understand there are many happy AMD users, especially those who never had an Intel system, but I am not one of them..

I got an HP computer last fall when I didn't know what I was doing. AMD 4200+ with an OEM mobo.
Found a great deal on an FX-60 so I went that route for a few months, but everything was hampered by the mobo (no OC). Almost bought a new 939 board, but then decided to sell FX-60 and part out the rest of the HP POS. Built my own last week (see sig), and it screams past anything my FX-60 was doing. OCed my E6600 to 3.4 stable-- Medieval 2 battles are very impressive to watch now. Still looking to upgrade to a RAID 0, and considering using the stepup program to future proof my GPU when the 8900GTX comes out. I'm very impressed with the power of Conroe. AMD = ![]() |

Switched from an AMD X2 4400+ OC'd to 2.7gHz to my Conroe OC'd @ 3.6 and I've noticed ~ 30-40% increase in performance.
SuperPi times on my X2 4400+ @ 2.7gHz were 31s. SuperPi on the Conroe is 14.3s: ![]()
