I chose the 40mm since that way its the same size as the nb heatsink,3 of the 4 screws bolts directly into the fins of the heatsink so its mounted securely and i didnt have to bother with another mounting sollution.Works well and its not noisy at all.

Well the ABIT board as a linked HS with dual heat pipes and has a footprint of 60x50mm doesn't use screws uses wire clips too may even be able to install a 60mm fan if i can get one with a low profile. 10mm hight.

Still have a lot of tweaking to do.. these #'s aren't on par with what I was getting on my 680i. They're about 10FPS short on average from what I was getting on my other setup.
Those are some nice numbers. I am curious though, did you mean to say you are using 8XQ for AA and 16XAF?

No. 8x anisotropic and 16x anti-aliasing.

I don't run 16x anisotropic on Oblivion, because I can't tell a difference between that and 16x. And anything I can't tell a difference with enabled I disable for the placebo performance factor.

But at the same speeds/comparable voltage, I'm idling ~4-5C lower on the processor than I was on the 680i, which is definitely good.

No WB on the northbridge or southbridge. I gave up on that headache a while back, because when you remove one of the bridge blocks, you must remove the other, and it's really hard to fit any kind of a chipset cooler, water or air, on the southbridge since it sits right underneath the bottom G80. The NB idles pretty low.. 32-33C and under load never goes over 40C.

I like that blue Akasa fan. I might look into something like that for the NB. I wonder if they sell them in the states...

Yeah, I know. It's past time they released a new XP driver. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the lower performance I'm getting on this board in comparison to my 680i.

Well, good luck man.
Udate:

Well i now know my card is fine,it is a driver/os issue.I installed a dual boot with vista ultimate last night and with the latest vista driver fear ,far cry, vegas and TDU runs perfectly,no lockups/bsod's To say that i'm relieved is a understatement ,now i just hope that nvidia implements the changes done into a new xp driver asap, hell tdu even looked better on vista as HDR+AA seems to work better at the same time, looks fabulous

I run AF in most games excluding most RTS games textures are so mach sharper more so in Oblivion for me. I would happy use 16x AF rather then 8x FSAA, i am happy with my native 1680x1050 rez.

1 month update (well, almost):

Everything is still going good, guys. I'm still at 3.4gHz on my Conroe until a better BIOS is released. Still on the beta 602, but this board seems to be a bit more stable than my 680i was and is still going strong. I will get an occasional blue-screen here or there every couple of days, but I'm not sure if that's related to the board or Nvidia's drivers.

But so far, so good. It's been my favorite SLI board so far. (now watch it spark out on me after I type this )

I think you just have bum luck. My last serious, and still running dealings with Intel is my Abit Max3 with a P4 3.0@4.0. That box is still humming along with a 6800GT (kids machine). After that, I went AMD X2 - then Opteron. All still going good for the past year or so. And now, back to Intel via 680i.

Maybe I just got lucky and you just got unlucky. Trust me man, not discrediting you at all, because I personally got burnt with Intel P3/MTH (which allowed you to use non-RAMBUS mem via a translator) Supermicro crap mobo in the past, that cost like $400+ several years ago; but they did finally recall and allow everyone to upgrade to native RAMBUS mobo's. Seems EVGA has done this too, so maybe we are all in a crap transition at the moment, and as much as I like this abit IN9 32X Max I am currently running, it does not properly clock my CPU above 10x multi.

Man, it's always something; Quads can't take high fsb, mobo's not clocking all cores when you set multi above 10x, etc. Freak! Wth?

It is really scary these days, especially considering the money you can drop.

And researching in advance really doesn't lessen the pain.

After seeing all the problems with the 680i on both this forum and the eVGA forums.. hell, all over the net, really.. I know it's not just "bad luck" in my case. It's a new chipset that Nvidia rolled out the door before enough quality control was complete.

I mean, yeah.. 3 bad ones in 3 months may have been a little odd, but the risk is there.

This new board I have is a hybrid model with the 5-series southbridge, and it's been the most stable so far. It's a 6-series southbridge chipset problem.
