I am saying you spent that time running stability tests for naught when you could have been playing.

That is all.

P965 is your friend, forget 680i

???

That still doesn't make sense. Games were not crashing until now. It's been running all of my games perfect for the last two weeks. Only just now have my games started crashing, and voila, it's now failing Prime/Orthos as well.

Orthos/Prime stability has sync'ed with game stability. Both started acting up at the same time.

I should have just kept my mouth shut, because I've been praising this chipset for the last week and telling guys how stable it's been since changing my RAM to run at a 1:1 ratio w/ my FSB. Well, it had been. For about the past week and a half to two weeks it had been very stable--not a single BSOD or freeze to be found.

And now, for the last two days, it has been freezing up left and right with the EXACT SAME BIOS SETTINGS. I haven't touched a thing, and suddenly it is starting to crap out on me at every turn. I'm getting BSOD's, random game lockups, screen-freezes when web browsing, etc. It is now failing Orthos at this overclock within 2 and a half minutes when before it would run it for 6+ hours. It is beginning to seem to me that this freaking chipset has a mind of its own and cannot be tamed. I have even CLOCKED BACK EVERYTHING TO STOCK SETTINGS, AND THE STUPID THING IS STILL FREEZING AT EVERY TURN!

I am this close to just saying "The hell with it" and going back to my P5B Deluxe and a single card. I just don't think there's an SLI motherboard that is 775 on the market right now that is stable. This would be the third freaking 650i/680i motherboard I have gone through in just the last few months, and that's ridiculous. I am so pissed at Nvidia right now that I could scream.

I'm typing all this on my buddy's computer because mine is running a Windows repair right now on the off-chance that might have something to do with it, but I seriously doubt it. Because I've been gaming on it for over a week with no problems and suddenly it just started acting up on me.

I have the SAME exact problem with my Evga 680i. Orthos passes with my overclock 12 hrs. + and Memtest passes just fine too....Yet at random the system will completely hardlock/freeze.

I'd be online browsing or checking email...maybe listening to a song. and BAM, I get a complete hardlock. WTF.

I don't know what it is....I haven't the slightest idea. Its not temperature, RAM, CPU, PSU, or ground....its has got to be the actual 680i chip (especially given its track record with other users.)

I dunno wtf it could be, but its extremely annoying. Especially considering the price we all paid for it.

I'm sure EVGA is on Nvidia like white on rice for the issues. The BIOS updates seems to break more things than fix.

Either the 680i chipset was flawed to begin with or the mfg. process of the actual chip itself has major issues. I think mfg. because not everyone is having these problems.

Well, an update. The board has taken a complete crap on me now and refuses to get past the bios screen at stock settings. No overclock.

So, time for my third RMA in the nForce 6 series.

Nice products, Nvidia!

OrangeBlast--mine would do the random freezing when I was web-browsing or checking e-mail when I had the FSB/RAM ratio at anything other than 1:1. Before it recently crapped on me altogether today, everything was perfectly stable at that setting and all the random freezes/lockups had quit. So, you may want to try that and see if it helps.

Why not try the Asus Striker Extreme?

The Asus Striker Extreme is 400$+ over here. Dump 400$+ into a chipset that's proven itself to be absolute *@^&! on 3 straight occasions?

No thanks.

The only option for me right now is the hybrid chipset that Asus has just put out that has the 5-series southbridge paired with the 6-series northbridge. I refuse to buy another 680i board. Ever.

maybe nvidia will magically allow SLI on P965 and 975X chipsets now that AMD and ATI are in bed.

I had the P5N32-E and it was unstable as hell it hated my Corsair PC6400 C4 Dominator memory so got the ABIT IN9 MAX and it has been excellent overclocks really well and is stable

I think thats why ASUS did Hybrid don't think it's anything chipset related but the 680i just runs to freeking hot, i am sure this is the reason behind the massive amount of RMA's going on they need decent cooling for get passive this the 680i. I am betting the 680i is using more power then a freeking E4300 processor, at least with the E4300 you can run passive!!
