Default Re: 680i is going to be the death of me.

Thanks for asking.

Things are going "so-so". I've hit what you could call a road block when trying to install my second 8800GTX. This motherboard is longer on the bottom than my BFG 680i was, and the bottom PCI-E slot sits lower. So low, in fact, that with the two-slot bracket that's on my second 8800GTX it bumps into my power-supply (my PSU is mounted on the bottom because it won't fit at the top where my radiator is.) and will not fit into the second PCI-E slot. So it looks like the only way to fix the problem is to take apart my loop so that I can put this card on top and the other GTX, with the single-slot bracket, on the bottom so that it'll fit above my power-supply.

I swear.. why can't they just make all these parts with the same specs so you don't have to go through crap like this.

Anyway, here's a few pictures of my new P5N32-E SLI Plus "Striker" (check out the last pic to see what I mean) :

Yea good luck Xion,it will be interesting to see how this board works for you as i have the non plus model with the infamous ? 6 series chipset.Allthough i havent had much issues with it in terms of stability i have yet to overclock it with success more than to the level of a e6700.No new ram yet so i havent tried your suggestion with the 1/1 ratio.I gotta solve my 8800 issues first before i can try more overclocking.Initially people at the asus forum felt robbed a bit when it was unclear exactly what they bought when getting the PLUS version as it contained no 680 chips but now i wonder if i'm not among those getting shafted instead hehe

Hope it will be stable and overclock well, get a 40mm chipsetfan for the nb,i bolted mine directly into the fins of the heatink and temps dropped 4-5 degrees.Good luck,i'll follow your progress

Thanks, guys.

It's been an adventure so far (when is swapping mobos never one?) but things are going pretty smoothly considering. It's taken me a while to get my RAM stable on this board; it's really picky about placement. I have to use both 1GB sticks on the right two RAM slots in order for it to be stable. It doesn't like any other combination.

Also as I said before I have to take my loop apart today and swap positions w/ the G80s since the bottom one with the two-slot bracket bumps into my PSU and won't fit onto the board. So, it'll be a while before I'm back up and running at the same overclock again.

heh, its been more than a week since I've been able to use my rig

Still waiting on a radiator no thanks to SVC.com cancelling my order... I ordered from Performance-pcs.com(which isn't too far from me) and my order has been in processing for TWO DAYS! oh man, its gonna take forever, my fans don't get here till the fifth for some reason even tho I ordered them on the 26th

no complaining about your rig being down for a couple of hours mines was down for two months when my XTX died

That's strange. Performance-PCs has always given me same day service (I even ordered a new case Friday morning and it shipped just after noon). Have you tried calling them up? Hank is the sales guy's name.

Not sure. I'm actually not sure if the board itself is longer or if the bottom PCI-E x 16 slot just sits lower down, but it's definitely too low to fit my second card in right now.

As you can see here:

--the way I had my loop before doesn't allow me to swap the placement of the G80s (you can also barely see my PSU underneath the second card.) The bottom card has a two-slot bracket fit onto it because it was a stock GTX, not watercooled, that I decided to mod w/ a block. The other one has a single-slot bracket because it's WC'd from the factory. So I'm thinking I might just swap the two if I can't just swap the brackets off them. Swapping brackets would be easier, but I'm not sure if it would void the warranty on the BFG card I have.

Every ASUS mobo ive had has been really picky about ram and this one is no exception.Dunno if the plus and non plus models have the same qvl but i'm looking at these 2 atm :

Yeah, even at stock speeds on the CPU/RAM it was failing Orthos within seconds. After switching to the right two slots it's been stable for 3 hours now.
