Default Re: 680i is going to be the death of me.

Xion, thanks for starting this thread, and thanks to everyone else for participating.

I'm at wits end too. I'm not overclocking my rig very much and I'm using PC2-8500 SLI memory - but I'm also getting the lock-ups and C1 errors.

This board seemed to die out after a month of 24 7 usage for me. I also experienced the "nv4disp.dll" error and I thought it was my video card. I also had intermittent C1 errors at startup, and thought it was faulty memory. I was thinking that I may have had to RMA the whole damn setup.

After doing some investigation and reading through the excellent threads on this board about this subject, I'm thinking that the culprit may be the EVGA 680i SLI motherboard. I'm willing to RMA that in hopes of trying out another board, but it's been just a bit over a month after my purchase, and I'm unsure as to whether Newegg will let me swap it out or not.

I had also considered the BFG board but since you stated that you are having problems with that, I'm thinking to go with another chipset altogether. Looking at all the responses about the 680i chipset, I'm wondering if it's a flaw in nVidia's manufacturing process as opposed to EVGA's.

Nevertheless I'm extrorinarily frusterated with this issue because I'm needing my rig to be up and ready for some music preproduction work that I built this machine for.

Edit: Oh yeah, I almost forgot this little tidbit of information as well - at times the keyboard would lock up, as well as the mouse. I have no idea what was going on with that but switching to a Dell USB keyboard seemed to help. The mouse intermittently freeses up as well. So maybe the board is having USB issues as well? Who knows....

2nd edit: Looks like Newegg will replace the product until one year after the purchase date. They won't refund it though, which is frusterating, because I may have to eBay the board to get my money back so that I can purchase something else.

Well, she's all together and I'll start overclocking soon. I snapped a couple of pics w/ my new pretty blue lights.

I got my EVGA 680i motherboard a little over two months ago now. E6600 overlocked to 3.4Ghz.

I've had about 3 crashes with it - all NV display (.dll) infinite loop errors. I've been hoping there will be another 8800 driver release for XP that will clean that up.

Otherwise I have to say this EVGA 680i board (for the two months I've used it), is the most rock solid stable motherboard I've every owned.

Sorry to hear about your problems, d.scott.

If I were you, I'd do a direct RMA through either newegg or eVGA. They'll send you out a replacement within a week, and then you can toss it on eBay. I just sold my eVGA 680i replacement for 220$--very close to retail.

I can't really speak for my 650i Plus yet, but so far so good. I refuse to purchase another 680i chipset--I'm done with them. They are all the same and suffer from the same issues, whether it's Asus, BFG, eVGA, or whoever.

I think the mouse/keyboard freeze you're referring to was a problem with the memory sync'ng properly w/ the FSB. I noticed that any time I was web browsing or just browsing the desktop the machine would suddenly lock up. It would do this constantly whenever I wasn't running my RAM at exactly 1/2 my FSB speed. Up until the end when the board finally died it ran stable like that. But that was for only two weeks until it went kaput.

I thought that my memory may have been the culprit too, but it runs just fine on my new 650i. The problem is the buggy 680i chipset.

How many case fans do you have, and where are they? What monitoring software are you using?
Yup, it's at stock speeds. We already discussed the fans I'm using. But the temp software that I'm using is ASUS PC ProbeII and the CoreTemp as well. CoreTemp reports a temperature that is about 2-3*C lower than what PC ProbeII shows- not sure which program to believe. Anyhow the new thermal grease (AS5) should be here tonight, and I'll lap my heatsink tomorrow. Don't want to lap the CPU as that'd probably prevent me from being able to send it back if the temps don't drop much.

Anyhow- your rig is looking awesome- as always. Hope this new mobo works out for you.

LOL. Well, tell her "Thanks for the vote."

Yeah, thanks for the bios info.. I was finally able to find them on Asus' site. They weren't coming up at first. I've flashed to the 602 and it's making OC'ng a lot easier so far. I'm up to 3.4gHz and climbing...
