I am going to try out this game from my friend's house, he more than likely has it. In fact he also has 2 extra PS3s that he never got around to selling. Maybe I can mooch one off him sometime int he next few months.

Gamespot review is up. 7.2

Quote:
Though its presentation is rather dry, Formula One Championship Edition is a good racing game that straddles the fine line between being accessible to newcomers yet deep enough for longtime fans of the series.

The Good: Great sense of speed; very friendly to beginners, though the difficulty quickly ramps up; sweet rain effects; online play is smooth and supports 11 people in a single race.

The Bad: Presentation is drab; difficulty progression could be smoother; rosters are extremely out of date.
Hah, seems I'm not the only one having trouble seeing through the mist from the tires.

One thing Formula One CE has in spades is speed. The sense of speed is almost overwhelming at times. The screen will blur, the camera shakes, and you constantly feel as if you're on the verge of a horrific accident, particularly when you're racing in a pack. The frame rate is fast and rock solid, even when multiple cars are onscreen. As much as you'd like for the frame rate to slow down a bit when it's raining, even the amazing rain effects don't cause so much as a stutter. This means you're forced to rocket around the course blinded by the mist from the cars in front of you and the droplets of rain running across the screen. It's awful because it's so hard to see, but at the same time it's awesome because it looks so realistic.

Try this link, its called F1 extreme 2006, ignore the title, its actually better than FSONE2006 because its all scratch made and not a convention.

Everyone seems to mention the rain so that must be "the gaming moment" from this game.

More review links:

8.0 http://www.411mania.com/games/reviews/51237

7.5 http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3157537

One thing I don't agree with on the 1up review. They said it's harder using the tilt steering but I thought it seemed easier. When I don't use it, I was kind of twitchy with the controls. The tilt steering isn't quite that responsive so little movements don't send the car going one way or the other and that seemed to help me some.

Actually, probably could have just provided this link since it summarizes all the scores, reviews, etc.

According to the reviews this is an average game then. I will still buy it though since I am a bit of a formula 1 nut.

I think it gets knocked down a little because the title won't appeal to everyone but there's a demo you can try to make sure you want it.

Good racing games usually get good marks. For example, F1 Challenge '99-'02 got a 8.9 on PC from gamespot when it came out. On the other hand, a mediocre game in my opinion, TOCA 2006, got an 8.5.

The reviews of F1 2006 don't sound too great. I'm a huge F1 fan. Anyway, I will reserve my opinion until I have played this F1 Championship edition myself. Then we'll see.

One other question. Does the F1 for PS3 have option to select different skin for the cars? For example, Alonso used 2 special art liverys at British GP and French GP. I've noticed that in the rFactor 2005 and 2006 mod, you can select between all the possible skins for that year. Example:

McLaren
- early season non-tobacco
- late season non-tobacco
- west tobacco livery

Ferrari
- non-tobacco
- tobacco
- can also use rear wheel disks if you want to (late season addon)

BAR
- regular non-tobacco livery
- 555 livery
- lucky strike livery

It's a nice feature.

Sixaxis works surprisingly well in this game. The drawback though is that my wrists were a bit sore after racing for 3 hours, but it did work better than I thought it would. In ridge racer, sixaxis is useless. Maybe there is hope for the motion sensing capabilities of the ps3.

Yeah, I think I actually drive better using the tilt steering and in MLB2K7, I think I hit better using the motion sensing method (maybe they make it easier?). But, like you said, it can get tiring during long gaming sessions.
