Default Compiz on GeForce 8800 GTX?

Hi, I've been struggling with this for a few days now and cannot get compiz or beryl to work on my newly assembled system!

I've read this: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=77030 and it doesn't work; I've read this: http://en.opensuse.org/Beryl and it doesn't work. Of course, xgl doesn't work... so I'm in a bit of a deadlock.

I've just installed the newest nVidia driver (1.0-9746) into my openSUSE 10.2 distribution and I've got several problems:

1. if I try to open SAX, I get black screened.
2. Every time I log off, shut down, restart, etc, I get black screened.
3. Trying to run beryl-manager causes a lock up.
4. Trying to run compiz gives me a white screen.

Any clues as to what is going on?
