Well, as Xevious said the exact oops was in my report.

And I don't have a /proc/kallsyms file... That's odd. Could that be related to my system being 64 bit?

I could embrace you! I tried it this morning with vanilla-sources-2.6.20.2, and NO, the bug does not happen there! I sat there for full 45 minutes doing nothing but reboots, and there was no bug. Not a single oops in over 30 reboots. Using the same config.
I never would have guessed this was caused by the gentoo patchset... So I guess I'll report that bug now to the gentoo-sources maintainers and will use vanilla-sources for the next time.

Btw, are you the energyman from f.g.o?

Out of curiosity, does the Gentoo patch in question include a multi-threaded probe patch?

Could it be related to that one? That's the only thing from this list of patches I had enabled in the gentoo kernel. I did enable support for the fb-splash, but didn't use it yet.

Oh no... I'm sad, this morning I had the bug again - now also with vanilla-sources... So it was not the gentoo patches.

Are you stating that this failure isn't consistently occurring?

Yes, I was stating that already in my first posting here...

Oh well, it seems it really was a hardware problem. After doing a lot of further memtesting etc., I think the third RAM slot on my mainboard doesn't work perfectly.
