Default Battle Royale: SLI 32x vs SLI 16x

Well here is the most recent info out on the performance differences between a full 32 lane SLI config and a 16 lane SLI config.

http://www.techspot.com/review/45-nv...i-vs-680i-sli/

There have been some other sites to do this type of review in the last couple months that had conflicting results. Anyone else have some links?

GOD I forgot how much I hate benchmarks.

Looks to me like there is no difference.

Yeah that's the whole point. Why buy a mobo with 32 lanes for an extra couple hundred smackers when the $125 board does the job just as well?

That is really damn interesting... I figured that the 8800GTX SLI was going to need the more than 8x because it has been talked about since the 6800 days where the bandwidth would be needed on future cards. I wonder if a Single GTX takes a performance hit in an 8x slot versus a 16x slot.

I'm going to have to look that up now, cause if that's the case, I don't need a new board to go SLI.

I still haven't found a good enough reason to go SLI with $400+ gfx cards. Maybe it's my little 19" widescreen. Maybe it's my miniature e-penis.

Heh..

Try hanging around at xtremesystems.

That forum will literally dwarf your e-penis's superiority complex, it it has one.

I try to limit the time I spend over there.

As for the motherboards, though, YES there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to get a 400 dollar mobo. The only reason i have my 680i is cuz I bought it right when it came out, and at the time there was no 650i cheaper solution.

SLI comes into its own at 1600x1200 4xAA and above.

Yeah, I didn't notice much of a difference (if any) when going from the A8N-SLI Premium to the A8N32-SLI Deluxe. Supposedly there are certain situations where the 32 helps though.

If you look Quake 4 is CPU limited because both resolutions are the same FPS.
Also, doesn't seem as if AA was used, so this is the low end of the spectrum for such a beefy 8800gtx SLI rig.

If anything I'd go with the 650i plus from Asus for the dual GigE, etc., but then you're only $20-30 shy of the eVGA 680i.

Right now no, but next generation cards may push just enough bandwidth to make dual 16x slots interesting

Right, a 22"-24" display usually? I suppose the next-gen titles will also benefit from SLI when you want teh AA and AF jacked up... Alan Wake, Crysis, QW, etc.
