Uhh no I haven't played w/vcore becuase the system is stable and the voltage is hovering around the proper stock setting. In theory, I shouldn't have to do that anyway.

If the thing is running warm then I'll reapply the compound and forget about it. There's nothing wrong with my cooling, that much I know. And nothing else changed except the CPU itself. No BIOS settings either. Auto was fine with the 4200+.

Yeah, I dont remember my XP 2500 running hot either, and my athlon 850mhz is still running, and super cool.

Yeah, that says it all. The Athlon 64's are some of the coolest running chips in existence!

FX chips have always run a bit hotter.

I reapplied the thermal compound tonight. Even used articlean 1/2. It appears that this chip just runs THAT much hotter than the 4200+ X2 did. Wow is all I have to say.

Looks like I'll have to turn my fans up. 34c motherboard temps and 57c CPU temps at load. This thing is *significantly* warmer than that 4200+ was.

I know when I purchased my a8n32-sli deluxe and fx-60 about a year ago, I installed the fx-60 with the cnps9500led. Its temp was around 46 idle and 55 load. After 2-3 weeks it dropped down to 36 idle 48 load. Still runs around there. Maybe the air flow is restricted inside your case?

Is there any difference in vcore between the two? Because that could easily explain a 5c increase in temp. (+speed etc.)

I have my vcore set at 1.33 manually. Comes out to 1.36 -1.38 on cpuz.

1.37-1.39 is what it seems to bounce around @ in cpuz. Set to auto in BIOS.

I'm not sure if the 4200+ had a lower vcore or not. Unfortunately I never looked at that prior to putting the new processor in.

If you don't overclock these sorts of things aren't something you spend time worrying about - normally. Thus why I didn't bother checking before I did the change. lol

Anyhow I'll just wait and see what happens. I'm confident the compound is on there just fine now. After removing the HSF last night it was on there fine the first time it seems. The temps being the same now prove that. So I guess I can always spin my fans up to a higher setting if I need to. With luck maybe the temps will go down a few degrees over the next couple weeks. I doubt it but hey who knows.

The days of cool running AMD CPUs is over, which is very sad.
Back up your conspiracy theory with facts, or are you refering to Intel´s Pentium D? mine overclocked to 2800 never surpass in idle the 35ºC and on load 52ºC

According to the obtained results, a few small losses couldn’t help AMD here. Despite all the tricks, Athlon 64 FX-60 consumes more power than the Athlon 64 X2 4800+. Although, the electrical and thermal parameters of the new Athlon 64 FX-60 do not exceed any critical values. Moreover, this CPU is much more economical than the competitor’s solution based on the new 65nm Presler core. Thus, the power consumption of the Pentium Extreme Edition 955 exceeds the power consumption of Athlon 64 FX-60 by well over 40% with all the resulting consequences. So, K8 architecture has once again proven its superiority over Intel’s NetBurst.
