Hi,
I am trying to install the NVIDIA drivers for my 7800GT on Ubuntu 7.10 edgy (x64) in the command line(as I can't get the desktop to work at the moment). I have managed to extract it following the instructions, However when I get to the line "sudo ./nvidia-installer -n -s --x-prefix=/usr/lib64/xorg/ --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-headers- `uname -r`" I get the error "./Nvidia-installer : 2 : Syntax error : ")" unexpected" Any ideas how I can get the drivers to work? Or at least get Ubuntu to boot to the desktop so I can install the drivers a different way? I am trying to use the NVIDIA-Linux-ia64-1.0-5336-pkg1.run drivers Spec E6600 Asus P5N32-E SLI 2*1Gb DDR800 Geil BFG 7800GT |

1.0-5336 is no longer supported, and doesn't support your 7800 anyway. Also, ia64 is the Itanium driver, which you wouldn't want to use in an x86_64 OS. You should be using 1.0-9755.

I saw the 64 part on the NVidia site and downloaded that. Thanks for noticing. I'm off to get teh latest driver now - NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9755-pkg2.run - then I will try it and hope it works. Thanks again |

ok, drivers installed although it said "Warning : Unable to perform the runtime configuration check for library 'libGL.so.1' ('/usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.0.9755'); assuming successful installation." after using the installer.
I can't get the gdm to restart tho , , and therefore can't get the normal login pageany ideas? |
