As far as i understood it all it does is remove the pp_ (partial precision ie. fp16) hints from the shaders, which only matters for geforce cards before the 8 series and not at all for ati cards because those dont give a **** about pp_ hints since they do everything at fixed precision?

From what i've been reading, if you have a Geforce 8 series, this does nothing for you. It's mainly the pre 8 series/Ati that this fix works for.

I've had Stalker for a while now and still not been able to get it to run well enough to actually play it.
I've heard that to fully appreciate it, it needs to be experienced with dynamic lighting... but even after following the tweakguide for it, my fps drops to <10 when the fighting starts. Just wondering, has anyone got dynamic lighting working well on an 8800GTS? If so, is it the 320mb or the 640mb version? I'm thinking maybe the lack of gfx memory is the problem.

What helped a little was turning the grass density all the way down, grass shadows off, lighting and vision distance down. There's not a hugely noticable difference and it still looks good. 640mb btw. |

Thats pretty much the same fps I am getting.
Right at the start, when you meet the first group of npcs the frame rate drops to around 20-25... Then when I led the npcs into a fire fight my framerate was around 9-14fps... at which point the crosshair jumps making it near impossible to aim.

Dual core optimisation is apparently down for the 3rd patch... but we haven't even had the 2nd patch yet!

2 GBs of ram made the game playabale for me. 1 GB would run way too slow on full dynamic at 1600X1200. Of course now...my video card is slowing me down.

Sad thing is, by the time the 3rd patch is out for this game so will Crysis and then it'll be game over for Stalker.
Really want FSAA, vehicle mod to work right and many bug/goofy fixes by the 3rd patch.

Yeah, it's definitely your processor.
I have the 8800 GTS 320 MB version, and I'm playing with everything maxed, grass shadows set to off, and at 1680x1050 and it's smooth as hell ! I haven't done Fraps but I'd say I'm easily getting 50 fps+ WITH dynamic lighting on. No slowdowns at all, it flies. My processor is only a measly E6300 @ 1.9 Ghz, and I have 2gb of ram in Xp. Get a new processor !! =) Your video card is more than sufficient. |

I managed to get the frame rate playable ... dynamic lighting (grass density lowest, grass shadows off, sun off).
Am getting around 90fps in the open areas... still drops to 25 in combat but playable... great... Save my game, reload my game later and in the same open area fps has gone from 60-90 fps to 16-19fps and sticks there. It just makes no sense... I am a little more impressed with the 8800gts at the mo because I'm playing at 1920x1200...
