I just got to the Brain Scorcher level I had fun back at the X16 level where you had the PSI machine as it just seemed so interesting of an area. This game so rocks... you just can't run and gun.. you gotta take your time and plot your next move and sometime hide back and wait for the enemy to come to you.

damn, i can't believe you guys are not going crazy with frustration at such framerates. (20's and 30's) .

That is definately very very unplayable for my liking. The game is way more fun with higher frames, the firefights are much more fun and the immersion is way higher when you're not constantly creep stuttering all over the place.
It just feels more real when it's smooth and when you're not constantly reminded that you're playing a computer game.

Try it, some of you might like it ... (or not of course)

Also, in the end you basically have no choice but to land headshots only, isnt that frustrating as hell with 20 fps ? If not impossible ?

Anyway, awesome game. So awesome in fact that whenever i'm on youtube, i can't help to watch 1 or 2 gameplay video's of stalker

I love the long barreled shotgun and the F-2000 :-)

Yeah, frame rates suck in single player at times, my A64 3000+ @ 2.5ghz is showing its age I think

Not sure how you are getting frames in the 20s. What are your system specs?

Probably. If you can't afford to go AM2 or Core2, grab an X2 or dual core Opty while they're cheap. That'll help quite a bit.

Hmm yeh you're right... except for when it dips under 20. Under 20 is extremely bad, you have basically no control over how you fire. I think X16 lab was the worst sofar... basically 18-20 for me the whole time

I was considering getting C2D upgrade, but its too expensive for me to do whole ram/cpu/mobo upgrade, dual opty might be best bet

X16 murdered my fps too. I stayed somewhat playable, but I averaged probably 20-25 fps.

But I think slaWters right, any other games hit 20-25 it's very painful, STALKER just seems smoother somehow. Yay xray?!

I don't . I don't dip under 120. It averages between 120 and 450 with most constant between 150 and 250.
That is obviously WITHOUT HDR at 1600, grass to half long and soft shadows off, rest highest and 4 x AA , .
When i turn HDR on, my framerates is (altough more consistant) one third of the above which i find crap for any shooter.

I was asking what these guys consider 'playable' , as one guy with a pentium 3, a 7800 (or 7900) claims his game is playable at 1600 res with full HDR .

He replied he was at about 30 to 35 fps, with dips to high 20's which is horrible for a fps shooter if you ask me, especially STALKER which isnt particularly easy at all ...

The crossfire 7.3 patch helped a lot, altough i get some flashing textures, at least it's fast now . Before the patch crossfire was actually 20 frames slower then with a single 1900 XT .

Stalker and HDR, turn HDR off i suggest, seriously. Something is wrong there, it shouldn't cut 2/3 of your frames away, but maybe that's just a crossfire issue i don't know how much it differs with an 8800 for example.

E6600 @ 3,3 ghz btw , 19.7 k 3dmark05.

Men , your "turn off HDR " is realy turn off dinamic lighting - perhaps the best lighting of all videogames -, dinamic softshadows, paralax mapping , normal maps , shaders ..... and run in DX 8

It's not worth playing at 20 fps IMHO. But that's personal i guess.
