Well, then it would especially be not worth it, playing such a cool game with a framerate of 20
How can you play with frames in the 20's and 30's and still be immersed, or have a decent fast firefight ? Or below 80 for that matter, it's still jerky as hell then ... I'm a graphic ***** myself, but if there's one thing i hate with a vengeance it's waiting for frames like a retard ... (I'm NOT saying any of you are retards for the record, i just think that playing a shooter at 20 fps is somewhat idiotic) But i'll play ... Is it really that much better looking with HDR ? Anyone have some self made screens to compare ? I made a couple of screenshots and to be honest i don't see what the fuss is about ... |

Has anyone DXTweaker installed? Can you try to force 2x2 OGSSAA via DXTweaker and see if it actually works? Preferable somebody with a 8800.

Well, while running to trying to find a spot that would make the dynamic lighting actually stand out against static lighting (i had to search for that, and then wait for the sun to come out from behind the clouds, which, i might add, doesnt happen all that often) i must admit that as long as you're strolling in the open without actually having to shoot, or turn, or anything, the low framerate is not as disturbing as i first thought it would be.
I wouldnt want to be caught dead when in a firefight with those frames though, i'd guess that would be a whole other story, especially as you get further in the game. Well, the clouds sure look nicer. ![]() ![]() But here for example, i really see no noticable difference ![]() ![]() |

Don't get me wrong..it's most certainly not desirable, and those dips are very short...but there's no slide show either. The vast majority of the time, firefights and all I never notice slowdowns at all. any other game I would be nodding my head in total agreement with you, this one though...just smoother. |

well yeah i did notice when trying out HDR that the lower frame count wasnt as annoying as i thought and that surprised me a bit indeed.
Maybe it's because the game overall is a bit slower paced ? |

after my frames tanked.I guess the other possibility is the xray engine is just that much more efficient. I don't know enough about it to really say. I did try static lighting right off the bat and my results were pretty consistent with yours, I went from an average 35-40 fps to 100-120 or more. So I get about 1/3 the fps with full dynamic on also. I still don't think it's the best looking game out there, but the textures and lighting fit the atmosphere perfectly, so thankfully I am able to play it with the majority of the eye-candy on. I just leave the grass settings turned down, and the vision and lighting distance didn't seem to have brutally noticable differences between full on and half-way down. All the better for us SLI/Crossfire deprived folks. ![]() |

grass is also a major hog. Looks better with less of it anyway
I did realize that maybe i dont need 250 fps to play, and cranked up AA to full and res to 1800. Not ready for HDR though ![]() |

With HDR its acctually dark and your flashlight is needed Also setting the gloss to 5.0 really highlights the effect of HDR inside and on objects ![]()

I just got through playing STALKER for the third time and got the real ending this time. I'm sure glad since I'm not sure I'll play it again. It's definitely a cool game with really neat atmosphere.
