Default system hungs w/ 9631 as soon as X starts

Hello,

I have a problem with the 9631 driver. Here is my system:
Debian Sarge
debian stock kernel 2.6.8-3-k7
on-board graphic card: NVCrush11 [GeForce2 MX Integrated Graphics]
XFree86 4.3

Normally the system is running with a nvidia 7174 driver that comes bundeled in a debian package; there are no problems with this driver. I'm now trying to upgrade to a 9631 driver. I downloaded the driver from nvidia site, and installed it after completly removing the old driver. When trying to start X, I'm getting the new nvidia logo (full screen), and then the systme freezes - no mouse, no keyboard, and I cannot even ssh into it from another machine.

I tried installing the driver with both --force-tls=new and classic but got the same results.

I'm attching the nvidia bug report - it was obtained when running the *old* driver, as I couldn't access the machine when the problem occurs.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Amit

You'll need to generate a bug report against the driver with the problem.

Yes. I'd like to, but I cannot even run the system with the problematic driver, as I said in my previous post.

I looked at the link regarding instability, and, IMHO, none there applies to my case.

Thanks,

Amit

Hello,

I'm raising this again since I still the problem is still not resolved. The full description of the problem is in the first post in this thread. In short, I installed the 9631 drive on my debian sarge system. When I start X (with startx), the nvidia logo appears, and the the whole system freezes. It doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard, and I even cannot ssh to it from another machine. In this situation, I cannot run the nvidia bug check against the driver, and I actulaly cannot do any other kind of analysis.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Amit
