Default Copy Current PS3 contents to another PS3?

Is it possible to copy the contents from one PS3 to another PS3? For example, could a system backup be performed and then restored to a different PS3? Basically, I'm trying to find a shortcut to having to download a bunch of demos to the 2nd PS3 that I've already downloaded on my main one.

Yeah. I think anything BUT demos can be copied (music, pictures, game saves, movies).

What about "ghosting" the partition?

There is no such thing as linux ghost that I'm aware of, but I'm sure they have their cutecy free rip off. Cue evilghost. (Lol, maybe it is called evilghost )

Ghost might work, but it all depends on what type of file system it is using, and how it boots up. I'd guess it uses Fat32 or ext3 to store the data on the drive, but the biggest thing is if you need to copy a boot record. Ghost can usually copy the partition just fine, but it has troubles coping linux when you install the bootloader into the MBR. That could have changed in one of the newer versions however.

Not only game demos, but for some stupid reason the savegame data for NFS: carbon will not copy, it won't let you. So there might be a few games where you can't just take the file and send it to another device.

Linux doesn't need a ghost program, it has it's own build in using the dd program. It isn't user friendly as it is a command line tool only, but it can clone a drive quite well.

In the XMB under settings I think there is a backup option for the PS3 drive, but I am not sure what stuff it will back up. I think that will let you put the backup files onto a USB device. Check the PS3 online manual.

I just used the back up utility and an external hard drive to back mine up. It copied everything I had to the new hard drive. Demos, movie trailers, save games, etc...
