You described exactly the same issue I have with Stalker, exactly. The issue is eerily similar to Fear Combat as well although in that there are maps that run perfect, I could play them hours on end no issue, then there's some maps where it runs perfect until I hit a certain doorway and it drops down to the same craptastic fps even after leaving the area. Only way to fix is restart the game. Can't help but think the issue with these 2 games for me are related to the same common problem, whatever that problem may be.

I'm at work atm, please feel free if you have time. Also, I'm guessing you can edit it, or Greeno once it's moved? Please feel free to clean up any mistakes I've made, or point them out to me and I will. Thanks nekrosoft13.

Confirmed for me, stuttering is gone in UT2004 and Unreal 2.

Updating first post.

Need for speed Carbon is also working great with this trick.
Neverwinter nights 2 also with the latest patch.

i thought i'd ask but is this tweak only to fix stalker crashing? as i have had it crash not even once on my machine, and the tweak not help my fps one bit so i've just uninstalled the game again, untill some new drivers comes out or another game patch.

for me this tweak not only fix the crashing in stalker, it also reduced the stutter during load time, and raised the FPS

I've applied this to..

-FEAR, still lower fps than XP but no more slow downs.
-UT2004, no more stuttering
-Unreal 2, no more stuttering
-STALKER, all functions like esc, quicksave and load etc, now work for me. Not one crash yet since applying it.

Others in this thread have reported good results with other games as well.

On the other hand, Dark Messiah still crashes to desktop, that's the only source game installed atm.

Doom 3 and Prey ran great out of the box.

ok, i'll just keep waiting on nvidia for some new drivers then, and hope for more patches for stalker. the only bug I've encounted sofar in the game, is the first scene when the old man is talking the screen fades to black twice. although it might be the drivers, i'm not sure.
