Default Nvidia driver lockup with 2 PCI express cards

I am seeing a consistent system freeze (as I run startx) with 2 PCIE cards (a 8800GTS and a Quadro 1400). The system is configured to drive 4 screens (2 TwinView connected with Xinerama). Here is the relevant output from the system log:

The bug report is also attached. This was run on a freshly rebooted system, because the /proc/driver/nvidia entries become unreadable after a crash. Cards work fine individually.

Have you verified that you're using the most recent motherboard BIOS?

thanks,
Lonni

Just FYI, I'm running dual PCIe and it works fine.

Card #1 is a 7900GT
Card #2 is a 7600GS

Both plugged in a Asus P5W DH (Dual PCIe 8x)

An update: tried the same with a GeForce 6800 as the second card - still locks up. The kernel error messages are slightly different though and there is no "soft lockup" message.

I'll see if I can locate your motherboard to reproduce this failure.

thanks,
Lonni

I'm afraid that I'm not able to locate your motherboard, and this does not reproduce on any of the systems that I have here.

Smile Re: Nvidia driver lockup with 2 PCI express cards

I tested the same 2-card configuration on a different motherboard (Nforce 600 series chipset, SLI-capable) and found that it runs properly. So it was indeed the motherboard that was at fault.
