High !
I try to install the latest NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9755-pkg2 on a OpenSuSE 10.2 with kernel 2.6.18.8-0.1-default . So all nec. software is on the newest release. I already tried different hints her f.e.: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=58498 without any success. The nvidia.ko seems to load without any problem, cause when I try a modprobe nvidia no problems were reported. Upto SuSE 10.1 (since 9.2) I installed the driver all the time without any problem. Bios is up2date. Sax2 crashes while starting up. Driver is installed correctly without any error message. Here is the report from nvidia-bug-report.sh: Thanks for any help! Regards Nukem36 |

High netllama!
sorry for my late response, I was out for some days. X starts normally (I used init 5 to start X again), but uses the driver "nv" I used before (old configuration), not nvidia.ko Regards Nukem36 |

Have you tried to manually edit xorg.conf (or just run nvidia-xconfig) to use the nvidia X driver?

High!
I found the solution for my probleme myself and want to post it here in hope the post could help others: When loading module nvidia (modprobe nvidia) I got messages like "nvidia.ko not an ELF file". The problem I had was ldconfig. Ldconig uses a cache-file in /etc/ldconfig.cache. This file was defect, so I switched Linux to runlevel 3, deleted /etc/ldconfig.cache and restarted the system. After doing that I called ldconfig to generate a new /etc/ldconfig.cache After that I could normally install the driver and use it without any problem regards Nukem36 |
