Default Acer AL1916W Nvidia EN6200TC Kubuntu 6.06.1 LTS resolution problem

Hello,

I bought this monitor few days ago and I got some problems with the resolution. With some search on the net, I solve the most important of them.

Now the only thing that is not ok is for the energy saver setting. I can use the 1440 x 900 rez but when the energy saver get in action after 30 minutes idle, the rez change for 1152 x 900 when i use the computer again. I have to start again the Xserver and sometime, I turn off an on the monitor to get back in 1440 x 900 rez.

Here is the content of my Xorg.conf file

Please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log while the problem is present.

Also, does this problem persist with the 'nv' X driver?

Ok for the info.

I send you the nvidia bug report. I would like to specify that I use a KVM switch Startech.

Like I said before, my problem is still with the energy saver and often when I turn on my computer. I am supposed to get 1440x900 rez but I get 1152x900 instead. I have to restart Xserver one or more times to get in 1440x900. Sometime by turning off and on the monitor help to get back in 1440x900.

I think X and the monitor are not talking of the same things??

I must also specify that my Xorg.conf file have changed since the beginning of this thread. Check my bug report to see the changes.

Thanks for your support

Does this problem persist if you're not using the KVM?

Hello,

With or without KVM doesn't seem to make a difference. I didn't notice a difference.

***The key of succes for my problem is to not using the energy saver mode and let the monitor on with ou without the screen saver active. The monitor have to be always on to stay in correct rez.

Another thing that can help you is when I change the timer setting in the energy saver in administrator.
Xorg.conf change completly and I have no idea where those changes come from.

See this Xorg.cong when I am doing that.

Even worse when I disable the energy saver. When I am doing that, the rez fall in 640x480 only.

For the X nv driver, that's the question that I can't really answer because I don't really understand what you want to know. The only thing I see is that the driver in "Device section" is NVIDIA. Is there any difference between NV and NVIDIA?

Thanks again

The 'nv' X driver is the driver that ships with Xorg. Please change 'nvidia' to 'nv' in xorg.conf, restart X, and test whether this problem is still present.

thanks,

Thank you again for helping me.

Good news for you, sir. The changes are made and the problem with the energy saver and the rez are now ok. You are the king. Thanks

Bad news are that change made some trouble on 3 other programs (Firefox, Thunderbird and Gimp.

This problem is not new for me because I got it until I install the Nvidia driver via Automatix few weeks ago.(january 31 2007) Since this date, those 3 programs were running in a correct state.

The problem on Gimp occur when I pass the mouse(pointer) over a open a picture, the pointer let a kind of drag, image movement. I have to close the image because of all of that dragging that the pointer have made.

The problem with Firefox is still located around the pointer. In fact, the problem occur in the dialog boxes (Adress box, search box, even in this present message box) The blinking bar can appear blinking or not. Other time, this bar disappear or appear in part. After having writing text in the box and I want to move backward or delete characters, the bar make multiple bar or part of it. Same thing when I move forward the bar in the text. It is very hard to write text in a dialog box because it is very difficult to control this bar. Hard to know where is exactly this bar.

For Thunderbird, the problem is the same as Firefox.

Well, maybe the trouble is more simple that time, I don't know.

Thanks

If you're reporting that the problem doesn't reproduce with the 'nv' X driver, then that suggests that this might be an nvidia driver bug. If you'd like further assistance with the nvidia driver issue, I'd like to see an nvidia-bug-report.log. The other bug report that you attached appears to be some kind of Word document and not a bug report.

Are these new issues that you've described happening with the 'nv' X driver or the 'nvidia' X driver?

thanks,
Lonni

The nvidia-bug-report.log.doc is the bug report in a .doc file because the file was too large to be sent on this thread.

Those new issues happen with nv driver.

With nvidia driver, those issues were not present.

Thanks

You need to attach the bug report in its original format. You can gzip it if its too large to fit.

This is the file.

Finally, I got back with the nvidia driver because it was too much trouble with nv driver. It is still the same situation with the rez and the energy saver mode. But at this time it's the best solution for me.

Hope you will find what you want with this log.

Thanks

1.0-8776 is no longer supported. Does this problem persist with 1.0-9755 ?

Was this bug report generated while the problem was present?
How are you determining that you no longer have 1440x900 ?
