Answer for Netllama,

"1.0-8776 is no longer supported. Does this problem persist with 1.0-9755 ?"

I don't know for the moment because I didn't try this new driver. Do I have to uninstall to old one and install the new driver or simply overwrite the old version? Tomorrow I will try the new driver but I will wait for your response before doing it. Is this driver compatible with my system?

"Was this bug report generated while the problem was present?"

Yes. The bug was present when I generated the bug report.

"How are you determining that you no longer have 1440x900 ?"

Just looking at the screen (characters are less sharp) and asking with the monitor's OSD what is the actual rez. The monitor tell me 1152x900. When this situation appear, I must restart the Xserver one or more times to get back in 1440x900 rez. The problem is really located when the monitor turn in sleep mode and when I boot my machine. If during the correct rez I turn off and on the monitor manually, I dont lose the 1440x900 rez!

Couple more infos that could help you are that before using this LCD monitor, I was using a CRT Dell P780 17 inches flat screen. At this time, everything was ok with the rez and the energy saver mode. But I have noticed that the splash logo of Nvidia disappear since the move toward the LCD.

Thanks again

Instructions for installing/upgrading the driver are included in its README. Also see:

Ok.

First, do I have to remove the old NVIDIA 1.0-8776 version before installing the new version? Or the new version will update the old one?

Second, I see a diffrence between the content of the README and the content of this web page http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-9755.html

Those two sequences of installation are not really the same ! On the web page, there is only two steps to do (download of the driver and install) Very simple to do.

But in the README, Installation guide and this link http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490, the process is rather different. I must check if some packages are present or not and I must modify a file before installing the driver. I must be in VGA console without Xserver active to install the driver.

And what about Kernel interface???

Both of these process are quite different. Am I wrong in my thinking? Do I miss something?

Which process is the good one?

Thanks again

Both processes are the same, one has more details than the other. All you need to do is install the driver.

Ok. The new driver 1.0-9755 is on duty.

Bad news is that same problem is there. It still occur when the energy saver come in action. When I want to use my machine after a while of standby, the rez is back in 1152x900. I still have to restart Xserver one or more times to get the 1440x900 rez.

I don't know what to do now

Thanks

According to your bug report, X is running 1440x900 at all times.

Please capture the output from xdpyinfo immediately after starting X, and then again while the problem is present.

thanks,
Lonni

Here is the info for those four files.

Before generating those files, the monitor show to me that it was in 1440x900 rez. Fine for this.

First action. I restarted the sesion. After it, the rez was 1152x900. I took a xdpyinfo at this point (xdpyinfo_A)

Second action. I restarted the session again. The rez was 1440x900. I took a xdpyinfo at this point (xdpyinfo_B)

Third action. With the rez at 1440x900, I put the energy saver at 1 minute delay to accelerate the process. After the monitor told me that is NO SIGNAL (power button orange) I move the mouse to reactivate the system. The rez was 1152x900. I took a xdpyinfo at this point (xdpyinfo_C)

Fourth action. Reboot of the system. The rez was 1440x900. I took a xdpyinfo at this point (xdpyinfo_D)

I verify the content of those four files. I saw a difference in the third file (xdpyinfo_C) in line starting with "focus".

A focus: window 0x800007, revert to PointerRoot
B focus: window 0x800007, revert to PointerRoot
C focus: window 0x3000007, revert to PointerRoot
D focus: window 0x800007, revert to PointerRoot

Hope this will help you

Thanks

You stated "First action. I restarted the sesion. After it, the rez was 1152x900". I don't understand what this means. Are you stating that restarting X resulted in 1152x900? If so, I'd like to see a bug report while that problem is present.

According to all of your xdpyingo output, X is running 1440x900. I'm afraid that I see nothing here to suggest that this is a driver bug, as X is always reporting 1440x900.

The rez 1152x900 is shown by the monitor itself when I push on the OSD buttons at the front.

The monitor tell me the actual rez on the screen. The image is also a bit less clear and crisp.

I know that the bug file and xdpyinfo are telling us that 1440x900 is active but I think the monitor itself don't seem to react on the same way of the files are telling us.

Even the Nvidia gui in the system setting, the rez is 1440x900.

While I was writing this message, I have turn off and on the monitor and it kept is 1440x900 rez. Is there a problem of communication between the monitor and the graphic card? Are they speaking the same language?

Thanks
