HELP.....
for some reason last weekend my P.C. won't boot in anything but safe mode. It just freezes on the blue screen just before XP loads in to the desk top. when I looks in the device manager the Plug and Play BIOS Extension has a yellow '!' next to the drivers and an error 37 code. I've tried removing it and refreshing but it doesn't find it automatically, if I re install it manually I get the same error coming up. I've tried removing all unessential hardware, dvd etc. But that makes no difference. In the end and in frustration I took it to a local P.C. shop and he seems to think my graphics card is at fault, because when he installs a different card the P.C. boots, But he had been wrong in the past with his technical advice, so I'm not 100% happy at taking his word for it. I've not had any problems with the card to date having no lock ups are artefacts to indicate a problem with the card. If anyone has got any ideas or can point me in the right direction to maybe find up to date P&P drivers I would very much appreciate it. Spec's are below in my sig.

"Powerstroke Diesel"

It could be driver related issue. I'd format the PC, and since you can get into to safe mode, I'd back up anything I wanted to keep and format'er.

Plug and Play BIOS extension?
like, the option in your BIOS that you says "Plug and Play" and you set it to enabled or disabled? (usually in the Motherboard features section) if that's the case, you could try switching it from enabled to disabled or vice versa. |

Well it's not the graphics card, I've just thrown it into my Dad's P.C. and it's running fine.
Doing a little research I think the 'Plug and Play BIOS extension' is something to do with Alcohol 120%, something to do with virtual drives, So it could just be that in safe mode that feature is turned off. Starting to think it could just be a corrupt file in XP. Might just upgrade to vista and be done with it.

Turns out the plug and play extension was a red herring. After a lot of messing around, it was my power supply that was letting my system down. Get my new 520W Corsair HX Series tomorrow
