X server freezes (but mouse works) after logging in with GeForce FX 5200
Hello linux friends!
I'm a new linux user and i have encountered problems with my nvidia card (Nvidia GeForce FX 5200). After giving login name and password, the system graphics crashes, but mouse works. It seems that the rest of the system works because when i press the control+alt+arrow combination, i cyrcle the desktops (but nothing else is visible, just the little desktop window in the middle of the screen showing you which desktop you are curently viewing). I have tried both the nvidia-glx driver as well as the NVIDIA-linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run from the nvidia website with same results.
If i login with failsafe terminal option and i run glxinfo | grep rendering , i realize that the 3D acceleration works fine. Also i get 1005 fps in glxgears.
I have ubuntu 6.10 distro (kernel 2.6.17-11-386)
Currently i have installed the nvidia driver NVIDIA-linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run.
I attach the dmesg, lspci, xorg.conf outputs.
Any ideas?? I have even tried to use the nvclock program to "underclock" the cards clock (according to an advise, the nvidia driver overclocks the card) but didn't work either...
Thanks in advance for your patience!
