Default Nvidia GeForce 6150 (ubuntu) system freezing

Hi all,
I've tried everything I've read from turning off power management in the bios, to doing it on the linux boot line, playing about with xorg.conf trying hundreds of combinations of options, but still to no avail. i've got a FoxComm motherboard with an AMD 64 Athlon 4000 on it. I have the latest Ubuntu installed and am running the latest drivers. I have also updated my BIOS to the latest, and tried changing all the AGP speeds and graphics options. I even tried increasing the frame buffer size to no avail. But still, seemingly at random the computer freezes and partially corrupts the screen. When doing more graphics intensive stuff such as running Vista under VMware, and using Beryl it crashes much more frequently. In the case of running vista typically I get about 5 minutes worth, in both full screen and a window before the system completely freezes.

Also under Beryl I'm only able to use the Copy mode as the composite mode results in black windows. I'm not sure if changing the bios frame buffer size has fixed this as I gave up using Beryl because of this. I had heard it was due to insufficient memory.

I am at my wits end and on the verge of going out to buy an ATI Radeon just to fix this, so any help would be received with much grattitude.

I attach the bug report output, obviously I cannot get any more output as the system completely freezes. The Xorg output displays nothing.

I cant use the VESA or NV drivers as I need a widescreen resolution.

Many thanks,

Gareth

I don't see anything overly suspicious in your bug report. Does this problem persist if you're not using VMWare?

Have you verified that you're using the latest motherboard BIOS?
Does the problem persist with a more recent kernel?

thanks,
Lonni

Thanks for your reply. It does persist when running stuff other than VMware. Does not have to be Beryl either can rendomly crash. However VMware brings it on within 5 minutes. Screen corrupts slightly and system freezes. I've just tried it with the VESA drivers and I'm getting the same problem - does this mean it's not nvidia? I'm using a FoxConn motherboard.

Yes, I doubt this is an NVIDIA driver bug if its also crashing when using the vesa X driver.
