Default Twinview problem, 7950GT, driver 9755

My Problem is:

Twinview dos not work correctly. The two screens are detected in the correct orientation, the postion of the DFP is left of the CRT. The smaller screen (CRT) has a part at the bottom which is not viewable. When I pull the mouse over there, she disappears.
Then there is the problem, that I want to have the CRT used as the first screen. Now both, the login screen and the Desktop comes up on the DFP.
It looks like as if the driver "thinks" the DFP is the CRT and the CRT is the DFP, because when the Login screen appears on the DFP, the background is not filling up the whole screen. Only a centered area in the middle is backgrounded in "KDE blue" the rest of the screen around is filled up with the normal background of an KDE session, but split off into four parts which are oriented like in a quartered quad. The CRT shows at the same time a vertical split-up half/half background of a normal KDE session.
When I logged in, the Desktop appears on the DFP, background is normal, the CRT shows nothing but a KDE background. The "dead" area at the bottom of the CRT is still there.

My System is:

graphics card: XFX GeForce 7950GT M570 Extreme
driver: nvidia 9755
DFP: Philips LCD-TV 37PF9731D/10 connected with DVI/HDMI
CRT: 7 inch TFT in the PC case connected with DVI/VGA
board: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe
os: openSUSE 10.2

My wish is:

I see a few immediate problems. The first, is here:
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device CRT-0 is invalid

While this shouldn't be fatal for a CRT, it could certainly result in unexpected behavior since the driver has no way of obtaining any information about the CRT.

Also, if you're running different modes on each display device, then I wouldn't expect them to have the same content and more importantly, the center point of the entire X screen isn't going to be at the border between the two displays rather part of the way into the DFP. Is there a reason why you're running the CRT at a significantly different mode than the DFP?

No.
Do I understand it wright, that it is better to change xorg.conf to same resolution for both displays?
If so, I will change it and come back again.

Yes, you should run the same mode on both displays unless you have a reason not to.

I've changed it to:

Quote:
Option "Metamodes" "crt-0: 1280x720, dfp-1: 1280x720; crt-0: 1024x768, dfp-1: 1024x768; crt-0: 800x600, dfp-1: 800x600"
and changed the following too (in the Monitor section):
Quote:
Option "UseEDIDDpi" "FALSE"
Option "DPI" "102x102"
The result is, the CRT shows a black screen, the DFP has an X-screen.
The reason is, the CRT doesn't run with the Xorg and VESA resolution, though the manufacturer said it should:
Quote:
LC18 screen supports the following VESA standard resolutions at 60Hz:
1600 x 1024 1600 x 900
1360 x 768 1360 x 1024
1280 x 1024 1280 x 960 1280 x 768 1280 x 720
1152 x 864 1152 x 720
1024 x 768
960 x 600
848 x 480
800 x 600
640 x 480
What can I do now?

According to your last bug report, the EDID for the CRT was broken/erroneous. However, if you can't get the CRT to do 1280x720, then that can't be fixed in the driver, its a hardware limitation.

If you have additional questions, I'll need to see a new bug report.

It seems like I have to create some Modelines manually.
Which tool would you commend?
Is it possible to create Modelines for DFP and CRT and use them in twinview mode?
If done, how I have to put them into xorg.conf and which section I have to use for this Modelines?

I'm asking for DFP modeline creation too, because the log shows that the EDID modeline "1920x1080" interlaced is rejected.
I remember, that with Windows MCE 2005 (isn't on the PC anymore) I was asked, if I wanted to have this resolution, when I used the wizard in nvidia-settings.
