Yeah, your best option is buy a Core 2 Duo CPU after the April 22 price drop. You can probably get one for under $150 maybe. I don't think you have chance suing the store's policy.

Fetch the ripoff that took place here really makes me want to .

I have built quite a few people (friends mostly) rigs for just the cost of the parts. I just love building that much I guess.

It's a bad lesson to have to learn from but at this point I think I'm better just buying a new CPU because it would be cheaper than taking a $500 hit. Am I right? Well, banking on if the rest of the parts are good too? Like if I just bought a Core 2 Duo CPU, would the computer be good for a few years then?

I was thinking about taking this guy to court but then how far could I get? I did after all accept the terms and price when I picked it up, I just didn't know what I was getting and what I could have gotten for the same price. Plus is says right on the invoice that I can return it, the guy even stated it again tonight, just I have to pay that 25% retocking fee.

Life sucks sometimes.
The restock fee is probably better than letting him keep $1800.

You can build a better rig than what he built you for $1300 though. Wait for the Core2 price drop, get 2GB of RAM for $120, a $100 mobo, and do it yourself. You can do it!

That guy was probably like,
" Well lets see here, where can I take advantage of this guy......AH HA! I can probably get away with selling him that 8800 GTS for the price of a 8800 GTX and he probably won't even notice! Damn I'm smart! Now lets see what else......"

Just consider this tragedy an opportunity to learn from mistakes. Now you know.

Not only is that a mediocre machine, this guy charged you like its brand new hardware.

Someone as dishonest as this asshole would totally resell this stuff, so dont even think he wouldnt.

You got ripped off hardcore dude. He basically stole your money.

Who is this guy, can you post his business name, address, and phone number?

Better news today

I went back first thing this morning with my dad in hope we could get futher than I did with my cousin last night. When we showed up there was 1 customer already talking to the guy and so to make a scene my dad raised a stink about his prices and how much he charged me. My dad isn't too computer techy so he just went on the prices and info I showed him off newegg and what the owner charged me. He told my dad to wait while he just helped the customer and so my dad got more ticked off at the guy. My dad started to explain to the customer his rediculous 25% restocking fee, and the differences in price between what I paid and what the parts are really selling for.
When the customer started to ask the owner about his pricing and 25% it got a whole lot better. He tried to dig his way out, told my dad the prices must have just fallen... did they? and told his technician in the back to come upfront. He got his technician to swap my Pentium D to a Core 2 Duo E6400 CPU for no charge, and as well said if I bring the computer back in next week, he'll upgrade me to the 640MB Version of the 8800 I got.
So, I guess I came out a little better with persistance.

If he had thrown in a 320GB SATA drive, I would have said you'd be good to go, but that 80GB HDD is pathetic.

Glad to hear that he got what was coming to him.

Thats still a rip... that amounts to maybe a $200 difference in cost.

It should run significantly better though. If you're willing to give up or you already told him that that was ok, at least you're better off than you were before.

I wouldn't have advised taking any offers though, since the price was so outrageous to begin with. For those parts he should have still given you back like $400 (and he would have still made a significant profit).
