TaDa!!! That did the trick! Many, many thanks. This has been a long, frustrating fight. Thanks again!

What step made it work for you?

First I tried commenting out all of the ModeLine's. That didn't work. Adding the ModeLine that you suggested worked like a charm. Here is the working nvidia-bug-report.

Thanks again!

Ok, great. You're welcome.
This modeline is from my Dell 24" but it really is just a "reduced blanking" VESA modeline. Not sure why the display does not return it, but you would need to run X with verbose logging to show that.
When I still had a 5200 card I had the same problem, but the "NoMaxPClkCheck" option did not exist yet. So I took that modeline and changed the 154.00 into 135.00 which makes it validate OK. However, the vert refresh rate reduces to 52.5 Hz. My display's datasheet says that won't work, but it did.
Now I have a 6600GT and I use this 154 MHz mode.

A display of this size does not really require dual-link TMDS, it just requires the extended frequency range (154 instead of 135 MHz). The next larger screen of course requires dual-link.
