Default X problem

Startx hangs my computer. All I get is black screen with "Mode not recommended" message. And... well, it hangs.
Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn`t work
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn`t work
Ctrl+Alt+F1 etc. doesn`t work
Log file doesn`t contain anything at all (tried deleting it. file still doesn`t exist after the hanging. addyng sync option to /var doesn`t help).
All works fine with Driver "nv"
Changing it to Driver "nvidia" - boom. (Installed it from the ports).

So... what should I do?
