If they were the same speed clock for clock and the E4300 didn't have up to a 450MHz overclocking advantage on air I would have a different opinion.

The 3600+ does give good bang for the buck and I haven't stated otherwise.

Really? Is there a Core2 lower than the E4300 that is currently available? If not, then as of right now the E4300 is Intel's low-end offering, thus the only thing they have to compete against the 3600 (as of right now).

Yes, I'm well aware of the E2160- but are those available for purchase yet? No- so why bring them up? I'm comparing two products that are available to purchase as we speak. Intel has nothing available lower than the E4300 as of right now- as such it is acting the part of Intel's low-end offering until they can replace it (with the E2160). So, as such, to compare Intel's current low-end chip to AMD's current low-end chip would be to compare the E4300 to the X2 3600. And considering the 3600 is significantly cheaper than the 4300 while allowing for an exceptional OC- it is an extremely good competitor to the 4300. Not just based off of performance but including price.

There is not a single Intel chip that is as in-expensive as the 3600 while performing comparably. To get such a chip you pay twice the amount and get a bit of an advantage in performance and OC..

When the 2160 is available, then Intel will have all around the better lineup. As it is AMD owns the low end. That is my point. I'd rather pay the $65 + ~$50 for a good cooler than the ~$118 + ~$50 for a good cooler.

People may read this thread and formulate their own opinions, Redeemed. I have said what I have to say on the issue.

Well, I can understand that, but you need to check that frustration a little when you're in the presence of true enthusiasts. I didn't see either Blacklash or myself bad-mouth AMD anywhere on this thread, and we're the two guys you responded back to w/ the most hostility.

I like AMD, and I want them to be around a long time. Same as with ATI. I loved my X2 chip and will be keeping an eye out for anything that AMD or ATI offers in the future, because both products have been great for me in the past.

And Xion, I never said that the 3600 was a better performer than the E4300- that would be about as retarded and blind a statement as is possible.
I didn't say that you said the 3600+ was a better performer. My problem with your statement was when you said the E4300 does "not perform significantly better" than the Brisbane. Right here:

Now maybe you meant to refer to it as a cost/performance ratio factor instead of pure performance, but you worded that poorly if that's the case. That's the only reason that I even replied to your post.

Anyway, it's all good. I accept your apology.

Nailed that on the head Xion- I was talking about pure price/performance. And I guess even then it is debatable which is really better.

I should have been more careful with my wording.

Anyhow, getting back on topic (sort of)- I am probably gonna' hold out on building a new rig until next year. I'm thinking of just skipping DDR2 and waiting till DDR3 is out.

Or I might just build something around the 3600 or 2160. Don't know yet. Maybe with Intel's price cuts planned for later this year I'll better be able to afford something decent.

for overclocking it all dpeends on luck .. some r good... like L628B or L630A i believe (not sure about the 30A one ,.. i remember there were 2 good batches from with , B , and A in the 4th digit)

anyway those good batches can do 4GHz easily (E6600 that is) ... with 1.6v set in bios air cool ... and only needs something like 1.35v for 3.6+GHz ...

but for the rest.. well some r good some arent .. its jsut that simple.. luck of draw... nut batches/FPO do matter i believe

Yeah, I'm really thinking of getting an E6600. They're are at a great price right now.

Later this year, when Intel drops the Q6600 down to ~$266, I'm definitely going quad core.

That is one of the main reasons I'm not buying anything right now.

These current price drops are merely to remain competitive against AMD's price drops. When AMD releases Barcelona/AgenFX/Agena, then Intel will cut prices again. That is when the Q6600 should be going for about $266. I'll see if I can dig up the articles about that again.
