Default GeForce Go 7600 display issues

Hopefully I'm missing something on this (I just started trying to get Gentoo to work on this laptop), but when I try the nVidia proprietary driver (both the gentoo stable as well as the nVidia download), I can't get proper video out, and when I exit (by CTRL-ALT-Backspace, as the "clean" method doesn't work) X11, I have to reboot because of garbage on the screen.

I've added pictures of both what the display is doing, as well as the nvidia-bug-report.log file (small enough to be uploaded).

The laptop is a IBuyPower Battalion 101 CLX [2] which is a renamed MSI MS-16332/M675 (specs here). The IBuyPower modifications including an AMD Turion X2 TL-60 (2.0GHz dual core x86_64 proc), 2Gb system memory, and SATA 160Gb drive.

I know that the bug report includes the xorg.conf so I haven't included it. Running Gentoo Linux for amd64 (x86_64), kernel 2.6.19-gentoo-r5 SMP, nVidia driver 1.0.8776-r1 (stable driver in Gentoo's portage tree) and 1.0.9755 (nvidia.com official driver download). The 'nv' driver with xorg works, however OpenGL doesn't perform as well as it would with the nvidia accelerated driver.

When I'm in X, I get the following:

After I exit X, the console is also messed up.

Adding the output from 'nvidia-bug-report.sh' using 'startx -- -logverbose 6' to get a bit more information. (I thought I started it with that command, but I missed. Oops!)

Have you verified that you're using the latest BIOS?

Does this problem persist with the 100.14.03 beta driver?

thanks,
Lonni

I have not tried the beta driver. As to bios, I'm running (to my knowledge, based on what I can find via MSI) the latest BIOS. Where is the beta so that I can test with it?

I double checked the motherboard bios which is the latest, and (according to them) the video card is also the latest bios. As to the beta driver, I ran the installer with no change in the way it acts. Attached is the nvidia-bug-report.sh output from the beta driver.

Question Re: GeForce Go 7600 display issues

Bump as this thread seems to disappear off of the forum (between page 1 and 2 somewhere).

I'm afraid that I do not have any other suggestions. As I don't have this notebook here, I don't have any means of reproducing this problem.

Depending on where you are located, that may be able to be arranged. I just can't take it across state lines.

So much for that idea. I guess no linux for this laptop, as the video card doesn't work with hardware acceleration and most of what I do is 3d rendering. Thanks anyways.

Hi, I'm downgrading my Toshiba P205 to XP. I can't seem to be able to find drivers for XP. Does anyone happen to know where to find them? I've been to a several driver sites but they were only for Vista, even though on the site it said Windows XP. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
