openSUSE 10.2 - NVidia driver disables 1280x1024 resolution

I was able to install and work in openSUSE 10.2 in 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz.

But when I installed the NVidia drivers through YaST and ran SaX2 and restarted X.Org, I no longer am able to use that resolution. I need to use the NVidia drivers to get better performance, so using my system without the drivers is out of the question.

Can someone PLEASE help me resolve this. I have tried everything, checked all the posts, tried mode lines, for the last three days but nothing seems to work.

I have included xorg.conf and the X.Org server startup logs where I ran the X server with and without NVidia drivers.

1.0-9631 is no longer supported for your GPU. If this problem persists with 1.0-9755 & 100.14.03, please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate a new bug report. I'd also like to see a bug report against 1.0-8776 where you state that this problem is not present.

I'll try with the newer drivers and update this post.

There is a small misunderstanding. The problem is not present when I am not using NVidia drivers. I have not tried using 1.0-8776 so I do not know if the problem exists with that driver.

I get the resolution without using NVidia drivers and the log file for that is attached with this post ( fbdev-report.log ).

I tried the 1.0-9755 drivers for NVidia. I installed it manually via the command line by running " sh NVIDIA-file-name.pk0.run" .

It did not solve my problem. In-fact, it brought up a new problem. Now 3D acceleration is not detected by SaX2 and as a result, I am unable to enable Xgl and Compiz via the GUI in control center. I have to see if I can enable them via the command line.

This was not a problem when I was using 1.0-9631 and had installed the drivers through YaST2. I was able to run Xgl, Compiz and Beryl ( enabled using the control center ). The only problem with 1.0-9631 was that it would not allow me to set the resolution higher than 1024 x 768 and it would remove the resolution ( 1280 x 1024 ) even though I had made entries for it in xorg.conf.

Any ideas as to what is happening here ?

Above is the EDID data for my monitor and it says that the Maximum pixel clock is 80 MHz, but the Samsung website says that the Max Pixel clock is 140MHz.

As a result it disables the Native resolution of my monitor ...

Now this is where the nVidia driver has gone wrong ...

Now how do I tell the driver that the this resolution is OK ? I have tried mode lines, but to no avail . . .

You would need to use the ModeValidation option to override what is being provided by the display device's EDID. See the driver README for more information.

I have fixed the problem !

Yes, that is correct.

I used the following flags to fix the problem

Option "UseEdidFreqs" "false"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidMaxPClkCheck, NoEdidModes"

I have also included my xorg.conf file in case anybody wants to take a look at it.
