Linear PCM vs Bitstream (Optical Connector)

I have a question. I have done some searching online and I keep getting conflicting information on which setting to use Linear PCM or Bitstream.

Both My PS3 and DVD Player (Samsung DVD-R157) have the option to output Linear PCM or Bitstream.

My Reciever is the ONKYO HT-S790 7.1 Ch (System in a box) it does not have HDMI input, just Optical and Coax. (I use optical for both)

So should I have it set to PCM or Bitstream?

UPDATE I called ONYKO and talked to 2 different Tech Support guys, and I got 2 different answers.....
