Same. I like AMD and want them to be around for a long time. I wouldn't mind seeing them take back the performance crown with this lineup to keep them in the game.

I'm really not partial to one or the other. If I feel there's enough of a performance increase in AMD's native quads to go that route over just throwing a quad in my current platform, then I may end up going with one. I personally like their architecture better with the on-die memory controller. I'm a little bummed about having to underclock my memory to get a stable overclock on many of these Intel boards.

I know, I know- but that's just what I mean- I can't fathom something being 35% faster than what I'm running. I know they are, but I just can't understand the need for such power. In other words, I feel it'd be a waste for me to invest in a Core2 since I'm so pleased with this Opty. If you're perfectly content with your Corvette, why get a Ferrari? Know what I mean?

I'm just going to hold off till AM2+ comes. Right now my next big upgrade will be going with water cooling for this setup. That's gonna' rock. But that's still a bit off for me.

Just make sure that you don't go with the Ferrari, then, because you'll never want to go back to the Vette.

Ian McNaughton showed off both systems encoding a 1080P trailer of Spiderman 3 to an H.264 format. On the dual quad-core Barcelona machine the encoding nearly ran real time. Extremely impressive.

I'm torn...I really want AMD to make a HUGE comeback with Barcelona, but IF the improvements over 45nm Core 2's are REALLY that big, then that means another big upgrade for me because I'll HAVE to go back to AMD...I would prefer if they were a little better than Core 2's, so I could buy a cheap C2Quad and still "almost" keep up with Barcelona...LOL

Actually, if the over-clocking results of the XT are accurate, then that just might be a good thing.

Sooo...

If the HD2900 XTX is twice as fast as the 8800Ultra with flawless driver support in XP, XP x64, Vista x86, and Vista x64 (including perfectly functional CrossFire as well), while costing the same amount as the 8800GTX- you still wouldn't buy one?
