Default drivers wont load after reboot-Debian Etch

Hello,
i had just recently used the nvidia installer to get 3d acceleration on my laptop. After the installation the 3d was working just fine, i was greeted with the nvidia splash screen and could play games that needed the acceleration.
Only problem was after reboot, the drivers will not load and X fails to start, i get this message:

FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.18-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko): No such device

i checked to verify that the "nvidia" drivers are loaded in /etc/modules at boot, they are listed to, but i had to re-edit my xorg.conf file to use "nv" drivers because i cant use the "nvidia" ones right now.

i am using Debian-Etch x64, have geforce GO 6100 chipset and used the amd64 nvidia installer.

can someone help please, i can provide any information that you may need?

thanks.

Thanks, but that link is no help, i have already verified all that to be true and have reinstalled my OS a few times a 3 days to make sure im running things as clean as possible.
The installer gives me the same fatal error as i posted above if i try to run the installer again to reload the drivers. The main question im wondering where did the modules go and why does it say error inserting nvidia: no such device.
i have run modprobe nvidia, checked my /etc/modules, ran update-modules, i just cant figure it out.
the drivers do work, they just dont stay intact after a reboot.

Angry Re: drivers wont load after reboot-Debian Etch

ok, i read all the stickys, am still not finding anything to help. i have removed all nvidia-glx files with purge, no /etc/init.d/nvidia-glx, removed module-assistant.
the installer will not let me reinstall the drivers either. all my gcc libraries and everything is as it should be.
here is the end of my /var/log/nvidia-installer.log file if anyone can see whats wrong with it, or why the module wont load:

-> Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko':
