Supreme Commander will use a quad. I think HL2 EP2 and all source engine games will this fall.

Very interesting choice. Get a 65nm hot core or wait for the 45 which could be late this year and require a new board.... Well the last part pretty much sums it up for me.

why... will 45nm use a different socket than 775? If it still uses 775 I dont see why a BIOS flash could not allow use of it on most motherboards.

Personally... Id get a faster Duel Core and then OC that even more. As cool as quads are on paper and as much of a steal that is I think most will agree that as far as current and upcoming games go, a faster duel core will probably out perform a quad core in most cases unless you get lucky and get a quad that OC's better than a selected duel. I can't even think of anything that will use Quad off the top of my head. If someone can name some things please do. I am debating a CPU upgrade as well... not because I feel limited yet in anything I am doing but because I simply have the ability to upgrade thanks to this kick ass mobo

My quad does 3.6 but I can't keep it as cool as I like at that speed with all my rads being small and internal. Plus I use nexus silent/slow fans, and running 3.6 is not worth the noise to me.

Not bragging, but my 7x24 OC is higher than your dual, and as a matter of fact, I don't think I've seen anyone with a quad settle for a 3.0 OC, so unless you are just 'holding back ' , you should rethink your advice

Check this out, get a Q6600 and drop it onto a P35 board, and it will automatcially run at 1333 FSB:
Quote:
All of the CPUs listed above in our table are 1066 FSB processors, but all ran fine at 1333 FSB at default multiplier and default voltage. Of course this is the FSB frequency Intel will be introducing on their soon-to-be-announced processors. This little side effect will make the P35 with DDR2 a favorite overclockers' board with current Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors. A $189 E6420 can perform even better than an E6700 just by selecting a 1333 bus on P35 and leaving everything else at default. Likewise, a $500 Q6600 will outperform the ~$1000 QX6700 with just a bus speed change.

FSX SP1 uses up to 256 cores.

I might actually build up a new rig around the Q6600 when it hits $266. That is just too good a price to refuse. Then early next year I'll build another rig around Phenom x4. Two awesome rigs right there.

Well I am going to wait and see what happens with Penryn and the P35. I have been spending money on computer hardware like John Edwards in a beauty shop this past year.

Ya... im happy where its at.... I did not know that high of an OC on a quad was common. I might have to think about getting one of these when the price drops. $299 is nothing.
