Question Widescreen TV

I just got my new LCD 32" tv (Samsung LA32R81B http://www.samsung.com/my/products/t...Specifications) and I can't get it to work right with my PC.
My card is GeForce FX 5500 which is connected to my crt by the regular vga connector and to my tv's hdmi entrance via dvi2hdmi cable.
I've configured my X server to run in separate X mode. Whenever I restart my X server, I do get to see the 2nd X screen, so at least i know the connection is ok, but it doesn't last long. The picture usually flickers, and then dies, and I get a "mode not supported" screen on my tv. Sometimes I even get to open a menu or two before it dies...
The 2nd problem is that the tv supports a resolution of 1368x766 but nvidia settings show only 4 resolutions: 1280x720, 800x600, 720x480 and 640x480.

I couldn't find references regarding X configuration for that kind of tv, so I'm sort of lost here... Could use your help.

pe1chl, thanks for replying to my post.
The truth is, I've been reading on this subject for a few hours now, and I must say, the amount of information is overwhelming - the trouble is, I find it hard to sort through it all...
I thought perhaps narrowing it down might help.
1st of all, I got to the point where I can see the desktop fine, even though it's in the wrong resolution - I guess I'll get to that later.
What I'd like to get help is - I suspect the refresh rate is all wrong, because whenever I try to run certain programs (even "kcontrol") the screen goes black.
Plus, the fonts are huge, but I can't even get a chance to change it...
I'm attaching my nvidia bug report, since I noticed I forgot to attach that before.

Even the smallest hint could help.
Thanks for your effort.
