Default Q6600 or Xeon X3220?

I'm about ready to order the last of my new parts. I'm hoping to clock a quad core cpu to 3.4GHz or higher, so should go with the C2Q or the Xeon?

xeon version tend to have higher FSB headroom.. but go with whatever is cheaper if you're not too concerned with benching/oc'ing

I just went for the Q6600, mainly cause the Xeon was out of stock. But I'm really pleased with mine, currently doing 3ghz on air cooling (haven't tried and don't want to push it any harder). But its 100% stable. Either way, you'll need top air cooling or better to get 3.4ghz as they run hot.

Hi Jon, just got a Q6600 and it ran fine at 3.0, but the temps were scary! I did a full load test on it and it went strait up to 70 deg so I stopped it straight away. My supplier said that 70-80 deg was OK but the Intel site says 62 deg max.

I was wondering what yours was running at, and what vCore and HT1.2v were set to???

There isn't too much on the web yet about safe temps for there chips.

The Xeon traditionally OC's slightly better since it's designed to run in a server environment (which is generally hotter than a PC environment). However, I'd get the one that costs less. They'll both be great chips.

My Xeon totally destroyed my old x6800 in OC performance, and costs half the price!

Too much heat, my TEC would explode Hoping Penryn uses less power.

X3210's are nice 'cheap' quad cores, they clock well too, see sig for clock.

8, yes it is and fsb depends on board and cooling.
