HI,
This question goes out to all of you that own a ps3, my questions is the blue-ray player built into the ps3 is it any good in terms of quality? I can’t make of my mind to go with stand alone player or to spend an extra $100 and get a ps3 which I will be able to view movies and play games. So what are your thoughts on the PS3 Blue-ray quality? -thanks |

The PS3 is almost as good as some of the best Blu-Ray players. One key feature is has that many lack is that it can get firmware updates to fix or improve aspects of playback. Honestly, untill a great $600 player is released for Blu-Ray, the PS3 is the best Bang for the Buck player on the market.

I really like the PS3 as a blu-ray player but if you decide to go with a stand-alone, Panasonic has apparently released a lower cost one. The PS3 use to be the least expensive player but Panasonic has matched it at $599 but they also include 5 movies in the box: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, The Transporter, Fantastic Four and Crash.
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news...ive_Flicks/629 I don't know if it's actually out yet though and I'd probably wait until some reviews of it are out also just to make sure it's okay. |

I just use dolby Digital to my Z-5500's and it sounds pretty good. I'd have to imagine you would have to have a pretty expensive speaker setup to really be able to notice a big difference anyway. The PS3 works great, although there is one thing that is lacking, and that is that the only type of remote input is bluetooth. (Which I have that remote and it is pretty nice) However, it just got me thinking that I have a PS2 controller / USB adapter, and you might be able to use a PS2 infared remote reciever to be able to hook it up to a harmony remote. I'll have to try that sometime. It's funny that everyone mentioned that it also plays games too. I have 4 or 5 games for it, but I spend more time watching movies using it than I do playing games. |

I'd feel sorry for anyone who wouldn't buy a ps3 if they wanted to watch bd-rom movies.
with a ps3, you're getting a blu-ray player for $599, and you're getting the ability to play ps1-3 games for free. with the cheapest bd-video player you're paying the same amount and you're not going to be able to play a few 1,000 games on it. |
