Default 100.14.06 + sigkilling glxgears with Close button = total freeze

I've tried the new beta .06 and just clicked Close on GLXGEARS window frame. Freezes the machine hard. Tried beta .03 the error was not there. Seems a new bug is implemented in the driver!!

I know what a beta is so I truly hope it won't be in the gamma stable version ...

Wow!!!
New bugs in a new driver... How exciting!!

Well I think nVidia wants their drivers to hide suprises to make us write new posts about them!! Negative popularity is still popularity!!

About black window bug we made a lot of progress in the thread!! Take a look...

Strange. I can't reproduce this problem. Your bug report has several of these:
Quote:
May 22 23:13:54 odin kernel: NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 100.14.06, but
May 22 23:13:54 odin kernel: NVRM: this kernel module has the version 100.14.03. Please
May 22 23:13:54 odin kernel: NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
May 22 23:13:54 odin kernel: NVRM: components have the same version.
What's not obvious is whether or not you installed 100.14.03 again between reproducing the problem and generating the bug report. Please capture a bug report after reproducing the problem and before starting X again or installing anything else.

Maybe the installer has some kind of problem and cannot uninstall the 100.14.03 driver correctly!!
I installed the driver 100.14.06 with 9755 previous one and had no problems.
Zander if you hear me PLEASE put your fixed localization binary of nvidia-settings in the next driver release cause it is not included in this one too! Why...??

I will do so soon. It's true I moved back to .03 and then to .06 to generate bug report and test again...so there is some mix-up. Also I used patched gentoo ebuild which maybe wrong strategy unfortunately (if something has changed in file hierarchy of the driver)...

Here we go again. With an updated fully working ebuild from bugs.gentoo.org I was unlucky enough to reproduce the total system hang when clicking Close on glxgears. Systematically...

The bug report attached. Please consider video card is 8800 which may be the cause of inability to reproduce on other system with another card...

anyone with similar video card and the new beta please try it...

I'm afraid I still can't reproduce your problem, and there are no useful errors in your bug report. I have a few questions:
  1. Does the hang occur the very first time you close glxgears, or do you have to start and kill it several times before it hangs?
  2. What else are you running when the hang occurs? (E.g., what window manager, desktop environment, other programs, etc.)
  3. On which X screen were you running gears?
  4. Do you have another computer you can set up with a serial console to try to capture any system errors before the hang? (E.g. machine check exceptions)

I can answer 3 questions:

1. hangs on first time Close
2. gnome - metacity (no beryl running)
3. on the first X screen

I don't have serial console and another machine.

I will try to disable composite extension next round...

Default Re: 100.14.06 + sigkilling glxgears with Close button = total freeze

Results:

I tried two things...

1. I use an xorg.conf for one screen + switching Composite ON/OFF
Result:
I experienced NO freeze when Composite is ON/OFF (resolution 1280x1024), but when Beryl is running, Close WILL HANG the machine.

2. I use my original xorg.conf with TWO screens + switching Composite ON/OFF
Result:
I experienced NO freeze when Composite is switched OFF (resolution 1280x1024+ 1920*1080i)
But WILL HANG when Composite is ON (no matter if I don't run Beryl!)

So it must be a memory thingy maybe (?), and related to composite.

That's all I could find out.
