Default Essential Applications

Trying to get a list going on here... what do you all think are the most essential apps for the modest PC user?

My contribution: Winzip

Winzip is nice, but I'm a cheapskate. Whenever I'm stuck with a reinstall of Windows, I go with IZArc, which is just a full-featured, and free. I also like to dump Notepad in favor of Note Tab Light. IrfanView and SmartFTP round out the list, along with Mozilla or the browser formerly known as Phoenix.

Cheers,
JND

Some of my essential apps include Ad-Aware, Trillian and jv16 Power Tools.

Great, free apps that serve a purpose.

Any users of TextPad?

Thanks for suggestions for The Bat, btw. I found the website and will try it out.
