please tell me your FPS

Hello,

I think my video card is not performing as good as it should be. I will be glad if more people post their FPS so that we can compare.

$ glxgears
10907 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2181.259 FPS
10852 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2170.390 FPS
10896 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2179.011 FPS
10884 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2176.605 FPS
10814 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2162.783 FPS
9921 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1983.918 FPS
10021 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2004.118 FPS
10020 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2003.913 FPS
9998 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1999.316 FPS
10023 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2004.555 FPS

I was expecting at least 4000 FPS and it's funny how the FPS drop when glxgears runs longer.

GPU: GeForce Go 7400
Memory: 512 MB

CPU: Core2Duo T7400 2.16 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
Laptop: Samsung X11-Pro

75248 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15049.600 FPS
75191 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15038.143 FPS
75255 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15050.834 FPS
75208 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15041.422 FPS
74231 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14846.067 FPS

but, glxgears gives me more than 20000 FPS with 9755!

glxgears are not reliable benchmark. They can only be used to make sure 3D works but nothing more. Try any game or any real benchmark.

It has been said on this forums like zillion times that glxgears are not a realiable benchmar.

Please use some 100% OpenGL native environment, run ut2004 or Enemy-Territory.

Anyways please run:

glxinfo | grep rendering

if it didn't throw out something like "direct rendering: Yes" then your drivers are wrongly installed or configured.

seriously, why would you want glxgears fps? there's no point. they really mean nothing more than what I have written above.
glxgears is not 'not a reliable benchmark', it's not a benchmark AT ALL. it's like benchmarking a CPU with only integer additions, that's totally ridiculous.

As has been said it doesn't mean much. You need to find out if your drivers are installed properly, it doesn't look as if they are.

but why am I getting only 2000 FPS, and you ten times more? What GPU do you have? And why is my laptops CPU getting hot when I simply do "glxgears" ? I became suspicious while trying out the compiz water effect, it runs kind of nice but it increases a lot my CPU load.

I can't remember configuring something special about the nvidia drivers. They are so nice that I just installed them and configured my external monitor with the nvidia display utility and that was it. Did I miss something? I've attached my xorg.conf.

What is so strange about 3D apps utilizing your CPU power? How else do you imagine it would work...

Reasons:
"Composite" "Enable" (disable it!)
"AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" (bad too)

and of course, your 7400 GO!


just look in grey's sig: he has a "high end" 8800 GTS card...
