Speaking of Keith, at the end of 2006 he said that

NV driver is not for someone who spent 500$ on nvidia hardware.
I have 2 brand new video cards I would love to use to their full potential with my new LCDs, and have a great experience with composite UI, but I cant. Please get XRandR 1.2 into the drivers... I couldn't possibly imagine why its taking so long ? If you open source your driver, or a part of it... I am sure the open source community would love to give you a hand, and will be loyal to nvidia. |

Also there are issues with Twinview that are solved by using xinerama. So for example if you need to be able to use the video card LUTs to calibrate your monitors with Twinview you are SOL but it works with xinerama. Hopefully randr 1.2 support will be here soon. Many of us need this functionality.

Just to add one more voice to the choir, I'd really like to see RandR 1.2 support in the nvidia drivers as well. I'd like to be able to use RandR to rotate one of my two monitors, and then use a compositing window manager. Using TwinView, I can only rotate both monitors at once using xrandr's 1.1 interface. I can use Xinerama and an explicit Option "Rotate" "CW" in the device section of xorg.conf, but that disables RandR (as described above) so I can't use a compositing window manager.

Do the latest drivers 100.14.19 already support XRandR 1.2?

What's all this hype around Xrandr 1.2 anyway? Are there some benefits for end users?

It basically allows you to setup monitors add resolutions and so on while you are in X. This is basically similar to nvidia's dynamictwinview which they have offered for a while. The main difference is that xrandr 1.2 also allows rotation of individual screens.

i too am very interested in randr 1.2 support, and agree with Harvester that the NV driver is not for people that spent lots of money on their hardware. i'm anxious to get a compositing window manager running on all 3 displays! |
