2.6.20-1.2316.fc5 #1 SMP Fri Apr 27 19:19:10 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
9755 FX4500 Quadro It would appear the enabling bot CI overlays and overlays in the same xorg.conf file does not function properly. This xorg.conf file worked flawlessly on the previously installed driver prior to a kernel update which forced the upgrade to this driver. Performance also has been reported by a number of users to be far worse than the previous driver. The previous driver was 8776. xorg.conf enclosed. Note: CIOverlay has been commented to get maya to function properly. Regards, |

Aaron,
I'm familiar with this as we are in fact software developers ourselves. That said, your post and the information contained in the link bear no relevance to the aforementioned issue. Please note the simple issue - CIOverlay and Overlay do not work in conjunction with the current driver as they have with past drivers. You should be able to duplicate this yourself with FC5 x86_64 given the xorg.conf file provided and the uname -a referred to in the posting. Enabling both results in color indexed overlays NOT displaying at all. I will however enclose a logfile from the xserver which may prove useful. Please note that the installer log was examined and there is nothing of interest in the install log other than noting that the driver did install without issue. Look for the log file in a coming post. G |

gmp,
If you'd like further assistance from NVIDIA, you'll need to provide the information specified in the sticky post that Aaron referenced, including (but not limited to) to details on how to reproduce the problem. thanks for your cooperation, Lonni |

Log files enclosed.
Again.. steps pretty simple. 1. enable both CIOverlays and Overlays 2. Restart X 3. Start any application which uses indexed overlays like Maya 8.5 or Xine, whatever. You will note they do not work. G |

There's a fairly large gap between 1.0-8776 and 1.0-9755. What was the last released driver where this worked as expected?
Also, is this problem also present in 100.14.06 ? thanks, Lonni |

Lonni,
That was the last driver version supported by Autodesk. For that reason it is the last version we worked with. Because of issues like this we tend not to update drivers unless some compelling new feature forces us to do so. In this case a required kernel patch pushes us over the comapatibility boundary for the old driver. We have not tried 100.14.06. |

As you stated that this issue isn't specific to Autodesk products, please determine the last released driver where this worked as expected.
Also, please test whether this problem is also present in 100.14.06. Thanks, Lonni |

Lonni,
I can confirm that the beta driver does not work. I am downloading older versions now. At what version do I lose kernel support with the following Kernel: 2.6.20-1.2316.fc5 I will work forward from there. |

Okay, and 8776 won't build the kernel module with this kernel. So it looks like that's the earliest version of the driver that I can install to test at this stage.
I can always roll the kernel back with CFEngine but since we know 8776 was working with the old kernel I don't really know what good it does us. Let me know if you need any additional information. |
