Default nVidia 1.0-9755 Installation Problem Fedora 7

Hello!

First of all i would like to point out that i am very new to Linux/Fedora as i have decided to switch over from Windows, However i am having a slight problem.

The problem is with the nVidia 1.0-9755 x86 graphic driver. I have followed the instructions located on (this page but yet the problems still occurs. When i install the graphic card drivers i receive the following error message;

Quote:
Unable to find the Kernel source tree for the currently running Kernel. Please make sure you have installed the Kernel source files for your Kernel and that they are properly configured; On Red Hat Linux Systems for example, be sure you have the Kernel source or Kernel Devel RPM installed, If you know the correct Kernel source files are installed you may specify the Kernel source path with the Kernel source path command line option.
Sorry that i cannot be any more help but as i stated above i am very new to Linux/Fedora and any help towards the matter will be greatly appreciated!!

Hey I just had this exact same problem myself. It's actually pretty simple, simply type yum -install kernel-devel and the kernel-devel will download. Then run the driver again and it should build. yum is really useful!

I think I actually typed the the syntax wrong, it should be "yum install kernel-devel". This should then go online and download the correct files, which will enable you to build a version of the driver for Fedora 7. Did the yum command work? It should be pretty obvious, because if it does it will ask you something like "Download size is x MB, ok to download?"

Just ran the command and it said 'Nothing to do'. I guess that means that i have the most up to date Kernel?

Hmm. I guess not. I'm not really sure, then. Maybe try yum install kernel-source or kernel-src, or something? Sorry, I just typed yum install kernel-devel and it started downloading, and then I could install. best of luck.

You didn't post the output from 'uname -a' however based on the output that you did provide, its clear that your system only has the source/headers for the xen kernel, which is not supported by the driver (and documented in the sticky post).
