yep can confirm on Feisty too. Can also confirm that you can do it without external keyboard. Close the notebook till it sleeps leaving a little space to press a key with something. Then wake it on the external monitor by pressing the key. Then you can reboot and Nvidia works. Can also set fan settings in OSX before reboot if you havent got linux controls yet, they are kept through a reboot.
Heres details on turning off monitor: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...70504003442646 from this I'm pretty sure all you need is the computer to reboot with the main display off. I rebooted with both displays on and it didnt work. Currently installing beryl . |

Thank you for your reports. I was able to reproduce this problem with a 17" MacBook Pro. It should be fixed in future NVIDIA Linux graphics driver releases.

When doing s2ram via echo mem > /sys/power/state, network and keyboard come back again(had to reload sky2), but the display stays dark.
'vbetool vbestate restore' and other do not work, neither does 'startx'. So maybe, while you're at it... :-) nv says "couldn't find the DDC routing table", nvidia says - failed to initialize the GLX module - could not open file /dev/nvidia0 (IO error) When doing s2r from X, I can restore the display by getting to the console and back. But the console does not work anymore afterwards. The output in X somewhat slow...e.g. scrolling in terminals is slower.. |

it might just be the 128MB ram on the lowest macbook, but I get a problem with it leaving straight lines in sections of the rendered graphics. like part of the display is slightly offset. It also seems to have problems with resetting black to zero when it clears areas, and leaves a sort of gray that is almost black.

In the meantime, the latest Xorg nv driver release should work; please see: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archive...ly/000324.html.

a big thank you from all concerned linux-MBP users to nVidia corporation. i know we don't all agree about the fact that the 3D driver is closed source but we're all appreciating the effort you take to support first class, though not as widely used operating systems like linux and opensolaris, and of course even more that you do release parts of the source to the nv tree.
now, is there a way to get hands on beta drivers? can't wait to get this baby rolling |

I see that apple has released an EFI update to fix display issues:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...eupdate13.html I haven't tested it yet to see if it fixes the problem, but i might give it a shot later tonight. Big thankyou to nvidia for investigating the problem and providing a (future) solution!!! |

Yep I second what blk said. Great work guys. It is obviously a non standard set up and system so for nvidia to care enough to help and provide support is great. Would've liked to see apple appear somewhere in this whole thing, but we are on the nvidia forum I suppose...
The display related EFI update doesn't fix it with the 100.14.11 driver. Might fix the problem in osx that allowed us to make it work though, havent checked that yet. How do I install the nv driver also, i couldn't find instructions anywhere on the net, and it's readme file doesnt say much... thanks in advance for the help... |
