The display related EFI update doesn't fix it with the 100.14.11 driver. Might fix the problem in osx that allowed us to make it work though, havent checked that yet.

How do I install the nv driver also, i couldn't find instructions anywhere on the net, and it's readme file doesnt say much... thanks in advance for the help...
directions for ubuntu/debian:

apt-get install xorg-dev, download the tar, extract it, go into the directory, type ./configure, type make, type sudo make install

then to actually use the new driver instead of the one that ships with ubuntu/debian:

cd /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers
sudo mv nv_drv.so nv_drv.su.backup
ln -s /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nv_drv.so .

then edit your xorg.conf to use the nv driver, and you're set!

I got the macbook to s2ram by unloading stuff like alsa and the madwifi modules. If I'm not in X the screen stays blank, ignoring vbetool stuff, and starting X also does not work. From X, I have to switch to console and back to X to get the display working again. But.

"Sometimes" the terminals feel very slow after resuming from s2ram. When I try to restart X, the server hangs, I get a blinking cursur on an empty screen(probably tty7 where the server starts) and I'm unable to change to open consoles.

I'm also not sure if power management works. I unloaded all other modules except for usb and ethernet and shut off the display with "xset dpms force off". Still, it seems I do not get much more than 2-2.5 hours.

thanks,
pepe

pepe# i think you should start a new thread for suspend issues, as this thread is getting looooong and it really is a different issue. you could also try if it works with an untainted kernel (no madwifi, open nv driver)

hope to see those new drivers soon and maybe they'll also address suspend issues..

I also wish to purchase a macbookpro to run rhel5 on for work. For this to happen I need to know that the drivers will work correctly and that they support extended desktop with an external monitor as they do on the mac os.

No one in my dept uses a mac and I have had to have a meeting with my manager to convince him to let me get one but only on the prevision that I can run two monitors.

My apologies if this is the wrong place to post this question.

I can't guarantee that the next driver release will work flawlessly with every shipping MacBook, but I tested various TwinView modes with the NVIDIA driver; in theory, current versions of the nv driver (see above) should support dual-head configurations on these notebooks, as well.

Wow, thanks for the quick response I am impressed. I feel a lot more confident now if I go ahead with the macbookpro.

Cheers.

Was someone able to work with the current nvidia drivers after updating the EFI firmware?

The workaround doesn't seem to help anymore, tried a few times. :-(

The free nv driver works before and after update but appears to have no xv support. :-(

a guy from nvidia told on this forum that it will be ready in a several weeks. So i imagine it will be soon now. because he said that 2 week ago. I would like to have this driver as soon as possible because i develop Opengl app on linux and with the nv driver it's not really possible

Try starting and stopping X with the nv driver once and then switching to the nvidia driver.
