I can confirm this too:
When using compiz with new driver series (100.xxx) freeze occurs when shutting down compiz (like with kwin --replace).
Reverted back to 9755 and freezing is gone.

Default Re: nvidia 100.14.0X, Logout or Shutdown make Xorg freeze.

I get this too! Freeze on shutdown/log off

Here are my particulars:
------------------------------
Dell latitude D820 -- Quatro NVS110M (nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 110M / GeForce Go 7300 rev 161)

Nvida Driver 100.14.11 installed from NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.11-pkg1.run

Fedora 7 ( 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 )

rpm -qa | grep compiz: compiz-0.3.6-8.fc7

rpm -qa | grep metacity: metacity-2.18.3-1.fc7

With no compiz -- everything seems fine. With compiz - shutdown/logoff problem.

FYI: same problem existed on same hardware under FC 6 (few weeks ago) -- with 100.14.06 (maybe 09 or some beta 100.xxx I tried)......I could roll back to NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run and it seemed to work OK.

For whatever reason, I have NOT been able to roll back to NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run on Fedora 7 (can't find 'nvidia' problem in X log) from NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.09-pkg1.run ..... I have not tried the rollback from 11 yet; nor have I tried rollback to NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9762-pkg1.run

If you want (and if it is legal, I don't know that, but I guess there are no problems), I can post you somewhere the rpm that I use with the 9762. It is based on the livna srpm, but rebuilt on the latest kernel, it is easier to install and will not mess your system. Note that of course it is completely unsupported by livna, red hat, fedora, [and above all] nvidia, me and whatelse

Default Re: nvidia 100.14.0X, Logout or Shutdown make Xorg freeze.

With FC7 and kernel 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7, I get a crash whenever I exit X, or if the laptop is suspended. I don't use compiz or beryl and don't have composite enabled. I do use the window manager WindowMaker. The crashy happens with the nvidia driver 100.14. I rebuilt the packages for FC7 from the older nvidia driver and do not see the same crash.

In /var/log/messages, here is the information on the kernel oops:

Jun 21 08:53:23 pols126 kernel: Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!

After reverting to these, I see no more trouble:

kmod-nvidia-1.0.9762-1.2.6.21_1.3228.fc7
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-1.0.9762-1fc7

Do the experts still want the output from the nvidia debug script, even though I already uninstalled the troublemaker?

Default Re: nvidia 100.14.0X, Logout or Shutdown make Xorg freeze.

I executed bug-report while the problem was present. Computer doesn't freezes completely, I can still hear music from amarok, mouse is moving, but the rest seems frozen and I cannot kill Xorg process.

I did this via ssh from another machine. As you see I have some aditional tweaks in xorg.conf, but removing them doesn't help, it works fine on 9755.
Also tried same scenario with agpgart and nvidia agp driver, no difference.
