You can add another request for a fix from my part.

I also have the same problem (openSUSE 10.2 x86_64, any driver version > 97.55, with Beryl 0.2.1 or Compiz Fusion).

I will attach a bug report as soon as I can.

It would be cool if you guys could fix this problem, I don't want to get stuck with the same driver version forever...

Thanks in advance.

Same shutdown problem here with ubuntu feisty, compiz, and latest nvidia driver 100.14.11. It did however fix the black window bug which I am happy about.

using nvidia driver 100.14.11 and composite enabled
compiz-fusion (without compiz-fusion and witg composite enabled its still thesame)

Thanks for the offer.....I will pass for now and just not do compiz for a bit and stick with 11.

interestingly, I finally tried the rollback to 9762 from 11. Same problem as 09/11 back to 9755 -- odd...I may investigate that problem a bit more...(roll back seemed to work un fc6 just fine..)

It is based on the livna srpm, but rebuilt on the latest kernel, it is easier to install and will not mess your system. Note that of course it is completely unsupported by livna, red hat, fedora, [and above all] nvidia, me and whatelse

Same problem for me (Xorg freezes at logout). I'm using Fedora Core 7 with a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 card (with 100.14.09 or 100.14.11 driver versions and Desktop Effects turned on).

I was able to install the "1.0-9762" old driver with some hints from this forum and from google :

Run the Nvidia installer with these parameters :
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9762-pkg1.run --x-module-path=`X -showDefaultModulePath 2>&1 | cut -d, -f1` --x-library-path=`X -showDefaultLibPath 2>&1`

In fedora core 7 the result of this command is:
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9762-pkg1.run --x-module-path=/usr/lib/xorg/modules --x-library-path=/usr/lib

I also needed to add the line below in the section "Screen" of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Without the line I lost the window decoration if I turn on the desktop effects (compiz) feature.
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

My system isn't crashing with this driver version. I will wait for a new driver update from NVidia to see if the freezing problem was solved.

Regards,

Yujo

wow tx, Yujo

that worked like a champ. Running 9762 & compiz again and logout doesn't freeze anymore...yippeee...

now if I could only get those compiz-tray-icon plugins to work...

I would like to ping someone from NVidia, I'm pretty sure they are working on fixing this, but there is no sign of activity, while NVidia is usually very fast in supporting their user base (this is why I choose NVidia over other well known companies).

Thanks,
Mario

Hey guys.. I registered to share with this you so hopefully it helps someone else. I've been having all the same issues that are described here and starting compiz like this seems to have solved it for the most part:

Code:
compiz --replace --sm-disable ccp
This will create a new profile and you'll have to redo all of your settings, but this seemed to work for me. I don't know whether it was --sm-disable or the ccp, but this combination cures the crash that happens when I try to shutdown/restart/sleep the computer.

Hope that helps!

Adding in sm-disable or ccp still doesn't work for me...

I would like to know if this is being investigated and if it is being worked on.
